Good luck. Not sure if it was asked, but where did you pick this up at? Back in the day, I had the option of a black TT MKIV (supra), or a Benz. Supe was asking $30k. Benz was $24k. I went for the Benz. Then the owner of the Supe said he would have sold it to me for $24k. So, then I was mad because I wanted the Supra more than the Benz. But oh well.

Made good progress today but didn't have time to actually spray the bay. Should be able to basically get right down to that tomorrow.
We cleaned, scuffed, cleaned, swept, cleaned, set up the 'tent', etc. There is a bit more masking left and sealing off the underside of the bay and trans tunnel, also put plastic on the ceiling and the floor, and then its go time. Here are some sweet ass photos of what things are looking like. I suddenly have a craving to watch E.T. for the first time in a long time. scuffed and cleaned  starting to mask off  the booth... its awesome  3 out of 4 walls up...  just like heart surgery in a hospital  almost all set up... where things left off today  All photos at: http://s324.photobucket.com/albums/k.../Supra/081608/

yeah... two 20" box fans with filters over them... an intake and exhaust basically. we need to add those in tomorrow as well. still a bit of sealing up to do on the booth of course but we just kind of ran out of time today so thats where things were left off.

fan in the trans tunnel is a decent idea, we still have to mask that off and we have a filter to go over the fan so it shouldnt really let the paint out (or let the dust in on the intake fan). i'll just see where josh wants to place them, he's the bossman on this one.
and yeah, i'm kinda psyched about this booth... its coming together pretty well. i kind of knew it going in, but its funny how much prep there is to lead up to maybe 20 mins worth of actual spraying. if the end justifies the means though, its all good.

The filters we used got filled quickly. I think they were the same particulate filter all the way through instead of starting with big and working to small. By the time I got to the 2nd coat of base, it was starting to get cloudy and 1st coat of clear and it was all over. Unfortunatelly the stores had closed so I'm home now (2 hrs away) and the car is going to unfortunatelly need reshot because once the "fog" of overspray setteled, it created a nasty texture, expecially since it was setteling when I was still spraying. Easy to say I got a bit mad at that point but we will be working it out to get everything back how it should be. |

oh, i wasnt even going to post cause i didnt want to talk about it, but hey since you told the story now i dont have to.
long weekend, lots of time and work into this stupid engine bay. i'm not stopping till it looks like sex though... we will not be defeated.

ok so paint got held up if you couldnt tell, but we're not giving up. going to put in the time sanding it nice and smooth and we'll be respraying base and clear next weekend...
i got a little bit of new inspiration just now... my buddy on SF just took a fresh photo of his engine bay. pretty! this is not mine! but is the direction i'm headed, more or less...
