Will short ram intake make me fail emmisions or inspection in my 96 Jeep 4.0?

My brother wrecked his 350z and had the intake laying in the garage. I fabbed up some brackets and used a old K&N cone filter on the intake tube. My jeep is due for inspection and I was wondering if I would be better off putting the OEM intake box back on. Is there any reason for the inspection station to fail me for a intake mod?

Thanks.

I dont see any reason why it would. Its just an intake it has nothing to do with your emissions. I could understand id you disconnected your maf to run that intake and make your car run with a CEL and overall like trash. that could fail you lol

its just an intake and aslong as you dont disconnect any sensors you will be fine.

As long as you have any needed sensors hooked up it won't You're still bringing air into the motor. It won't change your emissions at all.

But what if they encouraged it AND the stickers turn out to be awesome? They COULD POSSIBLY say something like "I love Mike and would turn gay for his tattooed, bmw driving, new york living ass". just saying.

Technically by law anything that has to do with air coming into or going out of your engine has to be stock, stock replacment, or a C.A.R.B. (California Air Resources Board) approved part for you vehicle. That's why even the K&N cold air kits come with a C.A.R.B. approval sticker that you have to place in the engine bay area. In theory, if that intake allows more air into the engine, the MAF will detect this and increase fuel to the injectors to maintain proper A/F ratio, and since your potentially burning more fuel than the stock CAT was designed to clean, you would be making more pollution. That's their theory. Now that being said, I have a supercharger on my S-10, and have fabricated the entire intake and exhaust system myself (except the cat & headers) from stainless tubing, and have inspected the truck twice and passed both times. Also since your Jeep is a '96, it has OBDII, so they only check the computer to see if it has any DTC's, if its clean then most likely they will never pop the hood, and you will get your sticker no prob.

No. It will not hurt your inspection results. As long as the sensors are put back in youll be fine. Many however forget to replace the MAF/IAT sensor or connector which WILL set off the SES light and thus fail you. In your case, it may not have the right hole for the MAF/IAT so some modification may be needed (aka tap a hole real quick)

If the SES light works and is off for the past 75 to 100 miles ther should be no problems.

When did this become law in PA?

As long as all the hoses are still hooked up (evap, PCV hoses, etc) it should pass with no issues.

i dont think that it will. my car has had one in for about 2 years now and went right through with it. but thats my car and were talking about a jeep. i see those snorkel things on jeep wranglers all the time. im sure there are companies that make intakes for jeeps. so just install it and make sure all conections are tight and sensors plugged in and you should be good to go. if you have any DTC's clear them out with a scanner. any dtc or a cel will automatically fail you for emmissions.

I had a 96 Grand with 5.2L with an intake and headers on it. Passed with no problems. Like everyone else is saying, if there are CELs then you are good. Don't worry about it.

they cannot fail you for emissions unless 1. you have no cat or 2. does not come to specs or 3. you have a cel on and finally 4. if your car ins OBD2 and the computer dosent display what it should. C.A.R.B. laws have no effect on any cars outside california no state has adopted California Air Research Board laws
