Need a dyno..

As I ask this, I know it's been asked before. Thus I bring on the idea of someone maybe making a FAQ/listing for local dynos.

Anyway, I'm looking for something local. I don't know much about dynos except I hear to stay away from mustang dynos. I'm looking for a shop where I can schedule 2-3 pulls and I ask that the shop can use (and has! lol) a timing light to advance the timing on the car after the 1st pull. I don't need any special attention for tuning or anything, just wanna do a base pull and have them bump my timing and pull again to see of any change. I'm gunna post a thread in a minute on why, but I need to grab a dyno pull to help on some comparasion with BP motors.

The cheaper the better, lol. Just as long as a printed sheet goes home with me and the pulls are fairly accurate. Thanks. FWD btw.

if so to the above poster, yes they do awd.

baseline = just a pull ill assume

i guess ill need to ask if bumping the timing falls into a $140 charge for the 5mins it takes. i hope not :(

thanks for the link.

Is PDW the one down the street from me?

I think Precision Dyno Tuning is right down the street, Seth. Literally. Elkins Ave, I believe. Right off of 13 by the DD and crab joint.

OHH YEAH AND SHOULD I MENTION MY ONE FRIEND COMES BACK FROM THERE WITH A KEYED/SCRATCHED TRUNK LID (SO DEEP IT CANT BE BUFFED OUT) AND THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

C'DALERIDER 01-30-2006 05:02 PM

NOOOOOOO, DO NOT go to xotic.

Wait afew weeks, I need Andrew to finish my car. :supz:

Xotic is the place.

TalonTsi97 01-30-2006 05:17 PM

Yea well phillydyno works is in a bad neighborhood. You have to park down the street and leave your car unattended but if your in a small group you just park rite infront of the place. So you take your own risk on that.
As for the wrx, i dont know what to say about that. Did he dyno when the place first opened? maybe soemthing was wrong with the dyno.
The 2 dyno meets i went to there with 10-15 cars dynoing includign myself everyones numbers looked normal so i dont know.

Im not defending this place or owe them anything but they were good to me and people i know who went there, but i guess everyone has differant opinions/experiances.
lol post up some more stories got class in 2 hours.

what?... hahaha ok dude i think we all know worse parts of philly lol come on thats nothing compared to places ive lived in philly

99SL2_Modder 01-30-2006 05:30 PM

...there's still PDT right off of 13.

I'll go with you Seth! It's a mustang dyno too! I wanna see how much power the fantastic plastic is putting down.

TROLL 01-30-2006 05:30 PM

are you positive philly dyno works is where these problems came from and not another dyno shop that also starts with the letter p? because there is a shop who has left customers unhappy time and time again in the area that maybe you're confusing them with?
i've been to philly dyno works multiple times and seen them dyno a couple dozen cars and everything went smoothly. last time we were there a guy was having some engine issues but wanted to dyno his car and they actually told him not to waste his money until he got his fuel sorted out... yeah thats right they turned down business becuase it wasnt in the best interest of the customer at the time. they seem pretty solid to me...
just want to make sure there is on confusion here becuase a little bad publicity can do a lot of damage on the internet and especially on message boards, so just respect the power that your words carry here.
i've also heard good things about xotic, and am very confident in their subaru tuner.

I am not defending or trying to bash any place by all means. I have just heard some cars comming back with low dyno numbers. And no this was not when they first opened.

TROLL 01-30-2006 05:39 PM

low numbers does not mean bad shop. low is all relative... they have a lower reading dyno but you cant compare numbers from different dynos on different days anyways. dynos are for tuning cars... its comparing a baseline to a finished tune... same car, same dyno, same day if possible.
PDX tuning recently posted about their mustang dyno compared to a dynojet in the area. they did a pull with their STi on their dyno and made 414 whp, then they drove it right over to this dynojet dyno in the area and without making any changes they made 464 whp... and thats really not uncommon. dont get too caught up in the peak number because it can vary greatly depending on a number of conditions.
and fwiw, 212 whp is pretty much spot on for a car with the mods you listed. 300+ ft. lbs is definitely wrong though... should be in the low 200s.
and i'm not saying you couldnt have had a bad experience there, just sharing my own experience and my opinion on the importance of accurate vendor/shop reviews.

Gorilla Unit 33 01-30-2006 05:46 PM

yea troll trust me im sure, ive been there also. twice to be exact. the WRX is also on these forums and if he wants to he'll confront you off the record about his expeirence. im just passing the word so that i dont have to hear about people's ****ty expeirence's at this place and for people to actually save there money to go to a better place.

On another note i also have heard good things about xotic, and their subaru tuner (andy). I acutally had a chance to ride up there one day wih another member, to check out the shop and meet andy. I was suppose to meet up with subwrxkid that day also along with a few other but they missed out. Andy and Xotic build some amazing stuff. ill even post some pics below so u can see some of their work.

Ok to be taking a nice car and leaving it unattended in a ****ty lot downtown doesnt look like the best spot to some people. No one said its the worse spot in philly but comparing to most of the dynos i been to or know of its not in the greatest neighborhood for people to be bringing and leaving cars with gauges and other electronics hanging out.
And i dont remember seeing you there the last time i was there and seeign the screwed up people coming by the shop talkin **** and the ones lookign at the cars.
