TurboTagTeam's LHD Silvia Build... Build Complete....for now

I had originally planned to build my S14 in a full blown track whore. But, the more I built the car, the more I reliazed that I would much rather build a car that could be driven to the track. Thrashed all day. And driven home that night. Sooooo....my search for a clean 240 to start with began.

I found a PRISTINE s13 coupe for sale right here on tristate. It allready had a huge array of tastfull mods done to it. I figured I'dscoop this one up and save alot of money.

Soooo....

Here's my starting point.

-First thing on the list was to ditch the horrible sportmaxes. I don't roll like that :)

A nice set of Volks 57 gramlights look much nicer

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...team/volk4.jpg

Then I attacked the front end. I'v never been a big fan of the stock 240sx front end. I picked up a Silvia front from nick at Elite Imports when I was in town to pick up the car.

I started out with this

After countless hours of sanding and banging out dents.....it now looks like this

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...m/silvia_2.jpg

A silvia lip is on the way

As of lately I'v been foucusing on the chassis. I really wanted to fully cage the whole thing but a cage with A pillar bars wasnt practical for the street due to safety issues. a 1 5/8th tube of steel 4 inches from your face is gonna split your head wide open if your not wearing a helmet.

This is the current state of the cage. All I need to due is finish the harness bar, tranny tunnel supports and fabricate the gussets. I think it turned out nice. All the tube junctions are all tig welded.

I have to do custom floor pans due to my height. I'm 6'1 and theres no way I gonna fit now with the cage due to head clearence issues. I plan on lowering both the driver and passenger floors by 2-3 inches. It will also remove the heavy brace under the seats.

In the engine bay I havent done much. The engine will be dropped so I can paint the entire car so I havent bolted much on yet. I made new intercooler pipes and a new turbo intake pipe since the old ones were nasty. I'v also began to polish some stuff. I have a 16' buffing wheel so there's not much that I cant buff to show quality

I have countless parts just waiting to be installed. Here's just a few

That's about all the progress as of now. I'll update as I get time to work on the car.

DC2.2GSR 04-28-2008 10:50 PM

better post often, i'm going to check this one every day! haha. looks amazing, what a great starting point with all the proper work done already.. that way you can really focus on the 'look goods' and chassis work.

Crappy picture....Z32 brakes are on

89RBS13 05-01-2008 07:34 PM

now this is what i like to see

nice project man, you'll LOVE the Z32 brakes! 125mph to 55 takes but a light tap!

TurboTagTeam 05-02-2008 05:10 PM

I drove the car for about 2000 miles with them on it. Defiantly stopped pretty good. I LOVE not having ABS. I learned to race without it so I'm used to it not being there to save my ass. And the lack of traction controll is also awesome. I'v got too used to driving my M3. It's too easy

lownslow95 05-02-2008 05:15 PM

Nice progress Mike. Pics look good and I cant wait to see this thing done. You have come along way since you had your six cylinder camaro back in high school.

TurboTagTeam 05-02-2008 09:50 PM

That technically was not my car. It was my moms. I was given to me. It SUCKED. BIG TIME.

I prefer to think of my turboed EK coupe as my first car

TurboTagTeam 05-06-2008 07:47 PM

Foor Pan allmost done. The floor brace and the extra room for the stock exhaust was KILLING my head room. There was no way I could fit in the car with a helmet on. So the hump in the floor had to go.

I gained 3-4inches of head room

Before

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...oor_before.jpg

After
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...floorpan_1.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...floorpan_2.jpg

I have to finish some welding then hit all the seams with seam sealer. Don't want rust to EVER be an issue.

IdriveBad 05-06-2008 07:58 PM

Beautiful! I can't wait til I find a nice clean coupe for my project to begin. I'll be watching this build as well.

hahahahahaha that Camaro was great

lownslow95 05-06-2008 08:48 PM

Yeah it was. I remember when back in high school we use to chill out front of that house and he used to say how much he hated that car and always beat the piss out of it.

TurboTagTeam 05-06-2008 08:50 PM

It was lame. It was IMPOSSIBLE to do donuts in it. All it was good for was shopping cart bowling and hitting cones on the highway @ 80mph.
