NJ Car Inspection Question

Ok, I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra that I bought as an automatic, and i bought a junk 01 w/ a 5 speed and I'm doing the conversion into my car. Plain and simple: Can I pass inspection even though the VIN says it's an auto when it's obviously a stick? I don't have to get inspected until 09, but still.

As far as I know, they don't do a whole lot with the VIN, except maybe checking to see that the registration is for your car ('05 Hyundai). If you pulled up in an '96 Tercel, then maybe you'd get some slack.

Overall, it takes a little more sleuthing to figure out options than they're really willing to put in, and they're far more concerned with roadworthiness and emissions, you know?

Yes. As long as you don't have any CELs from speed sensors and the like.
