Cut springs or Coilovers?

Gotta 90 Prelude Si. Tryina drop it a little. debating on cuttin the stock springs, or get a cheap set of coilovers. not looking for real performance gain, i'm more tryina get the slammed/flush stance.

Got Insulin? 09-12-2010 01:37 PM

Both are going to give you a trashy ride. If nothing else, just spend the coin and get yourself one of the better sets of junk c/os like Megans or Tiens or BRs.

Or, actually spend the money to do it right.

92accordex 09-12-2010 02:15 PM

Either one of them could potentially fail on you while driving down the road. But that's a chance us people take! Id say cheap coilovers

steelermike27 09-12-2010 03:32 PM

I was lookin around at some coilover systems, because i have a weird car that not too many ppl work on, hardly any companies out there make any type of suspension upgrades.

97TurboDSM 09-12-2010 03:57 PM

lol cut the springs.

OutToWinPAHC 09-12-2010 04:03 PM

Those coilover sleeves probably wont even fit the shock perches correctly. I say neither.

liberta 09-30-2010 01:59 PM

lol get like really low pro tires.

jpalamar 09-30-2010 04:09 PM

Cut the springs so you wreck your car. Its the cool thing to do.

qbcsvt 09-30-2010 04:09 PM

Drive with tires or no tires? You tell me which is the stupid choice....

or cut tires, because they help with cooling.... lol

Sberk06 09-30-2010 04:31 PM

for like $200 you can get legit springs man.

ourbloodykisses 09-30-2010 06:29 PM

^lowering springs are whack though

if you want to be low, pay up. do it right, dont cheap out.

06SS/SC ALL DAY 10-01-2010 02:31 AM

i would cut the coils. so much easier, cheaper and more fun!...

cvcrcr99 10-02-2010 09:12 PM

Coils with front/rear camber kit

DumpdBassetHound 10-02-2010 09:18 PM

yeah dont cut the springs or get sleeves i had them on my civic and you hit a bump and bounce a mile down the road....... but it was low

92accordex 10-03-2010 12:18 AM

If youre prepared for a pretty much bad ride go for either mad people are rocking both

highmilehatch 10-03-2010 11:17 AM

Cut springs, definitely.

tranceporter 10-03-2010 12:29 PM

i have cut springs on my s2000. do it, don't listen to anyone

Ridachu 10-03-2010 08:02 PM

sleeves are easier than cutting springs...and id rather say i have sleeves than cut springs...you can change also your hieght with sleeves

liberta 10-04-2010 02:05 AM

Make sure you heat the springs before you cut them ;)

Besides the weight savings from the missing coil is like 15hp!

jpalamar 10-04-2010 01:16 PM

Also, won't the struts fail if you cut the springs or do lowering springs? I thought you had to buy all that stuff to match.

steelermike27 10-04-2010 07:25 PM

lmfao jeff.I'm debating on it all... im still lookin around for anything. there really isnt anything out there suspension wise for a 90 Prelude Si. i finally found lowering springs online, after searching a ****load of forums. i found decent drop springs. I was told they would work with stock (but brand new) struts and strut mounts. i'm if-y about it. i'm still scouring around to try to find something else (adjustable coil-overs). Very hard to find anything. I'm definitly not going for Ebay setup. But i'm not necissarily going for performance either. i more or less want to just get rid of the massive wheel-gap i have.

evomike 10-04-2010 07:57 PM

Why don't you just do the most logical thing here, cut the springs it's free if you don't like it buy coilovers your driving the car nobody else I dunno why you asked opinions the springs should already be cut.

steelermike27 10-04-2010 08:17 PM

i want somethin thats gonna be dependable. i'm asking opinions cause i'm trying to see what people say is good/bad idea. one way or another, my suspension is getting dropped. it's just a matter of what i finally decide.

93_1G_U13 10-05-2010 02:17 AM

Coils. I tried cut springs. They gave me the look I wanted, but the ride quality was horrible.

gotvtec? 10-05-2010 03:13 AM

Like they say on b20vtec, "do the right thing cut them springs." lol at trying out stance with cut springs. +1 on originality though since i havent seen that body style prelude stanced out.

liberta 10-05-2010 12:01 PM

Its rare, but its been done. There's actually one on here that's really clean.

If you can't find springs, your stock ones are kinda soft, so throw some lead weights in there to drop it a lil. You said you weren't worried about performance lol

Showoff03LS 10-06-2010 06:54 PM

if you wanna see how your car looks slammed or lowered go tothe junkyard get some struts and springs cut them for a test look.

ourbloodykisses 10-06-2010 07:14 PM

or ride with no springs.

ive seen modded preludes of that gen, its not impossible. not many people modify my gen of civic, yet their is a few parts out there. what kind of chassis is it? do any of the other parts from the older hondas fit? Id do more research before you cut your **** up and have it ride like poo.

alansupra94 10-18-2010 01:15 AM

You can always measure your struts outer diameter, buy some summit sleeves and get some hypercoils. Gixxerdrew on supraforums essentially did that w/ Blistien shocks.

evomike 10-18-2010 01:23 AM

You do know grous control makes coil over kits for like 330 bucks for your car right.

ourbloodykisses 10-20-2010 06:52 PM

ground controls
