awesome, glad everyone is loving it... you really cant drive your car this hard on the street or experience/learn as much about your car... but its the kind of thing i dont think you can understand until you actually get out there and drive at an autox.
on the street my car is pretty well settled but damn its wild when i get out into the slaloms and other obstacles laid out at an autox... they really know what they're doing when they set these courses up to challenge the driver and the car, and its a blast :).

It was a LOOOONG day. Didn't do as good as I thought I would and would have loved a traditional Warminster course but this one was unique. I learned my Nitto's absolutely hate cold weather. Patience was key.

All in all, with the sun glare and headlight final run, my best was 64.3 with my boost controller set to OFF (weak 210whp)...haha forget to turn it on but I think it rewarded me as my tires were slick powering out of turns.

Frank - I didn't get to talk to you buy heard your motor...that thing has a wicked knock or something. Time to get the compression checker out. Hope that works out for you. http://rotarydiagnostics.com/

Did anyone happen to see a kid there in an 06 silver or grey 2.5RS? He just got the thing and was talking about going, but I dunno if he made it.

TROLL 10-28-2007 08:55 PM

ah i forgot to say that i did see your car sean... it looks sweet. shoulda come up to say hi but things got hectic once the 4th heat started. nice times! i should try running wastegate pressure next time i'm out there, thats not a bad idea even though it would only be a few lbs lower than normal.

Did anyone get pics or video by chance?

PaleDSM 10-28-2007 10:17 PM

I didn't realize you were a member here at the time Sean. Car looked wicked with those Enkies. Great aggressive offset on them.

came in last in sts class. IT was my first time though. i beat about 5 people in non comp. ALthough i did go off course 3/4 runs. Wish i would have walked through it more times

malloyboy1 10-28-2007 11:03 PM

well here is my summary...

stood outside most of the day freezing becasue the hoodie i had wasnt as warm as i thought

talked to a bunch of people, good to see everyone!

ok down to business,

1st run:
did great through the loop but came out super fast and some how made it through the first slolom then going in the direction of the second slolom i managed to sping about 1 and 3/4 times filling the track with smoke. they didnt even give me a time on that run they just said that i was off the track

2nd run:
once again pulled through the begining good but slower than last time so i made it up to the end of the track then lost it when i couldnt see. ( gotta love the sunset) another off track but they said i had a 84 something

3rd run:
medium to fast speed then got to the slolom (where i spun the 1st time) and smashed a cone, made it all the way to the last turn before i got out of control again and ran an 83 something

4th run:
it was dark to i just threw on my highbeams and strapped my g/f into the pass seat and just drove the last one just to get it done to be honest. it was another off track and i missed the time.

overall i only hit one cone, i didnt set any records but i had a great time and learned a little more about my crazy oversteer so it was a good day and i ant wait till it gets warm to do some more

Chances are, if you're in the first or second heat, I got video of you. If you were in the 3rd or 4th...I had to roll before they started.

My day got all messed up. Got home from work late last night so car wasnt washed and the mbc never got installed and i was running to much boost untuned for this car. Tried getting up early but it was rough had to do a bunch of last minute things, washed the car, then went to install the boost controller. I was tempted to just run without it but figure its a quick easy job. Long story short an easy job turnt into a good little project especially out in the cold and trying to quickly get it done. Ended up with needing a trip to the store and some other stuff. By this time i ended missing registration so i figured whatever i just wont run and will finish the car up later. Sucks that i now find out you guys were there for how long i could finished up the car and made it over. Theres always next season and by then i will by a lot beter prepared. Looking forward to pics/vids. Sorry i couldnt make it to get them for everyone myself.
Sounds like easy lil stuff but everyone knows whats happens last minute with cars involved.

yeah sean i wanted to say hi but i wasnt feeling like myself yesterday.

saturday i got a flu shot and it gave me a fever, i just took my temp and im at 101. on the way to my buddy marks house i merged onto i95 and was WOT and when it ran to about 7k the engine surged real weird and the CEL started flashing. ever since then its been makin terrible sounds, cranks long and barely starts. the condition is even worse when the engine is cold.

brian was nice enuff to bring a scanner and i checked the code to be a rotor 1 misfire. i am leaning to the chance i sucked in water and locked it up.

i decided to race anyway, being a mazda tech lets me feel at ease when stuff breaks bc i kno i got in good with the warranty clerk...

to my own surprise this is my first problem ive ever had with the car and given the way i drive it it seems as tho i would have had problems long before this incident. i cant go into work today bc i feel like im gonna thor up and die a long painful death but tomorrow ill go in and run a comp test and see whats what. its more of a rotational grinding and scratching sound. it may or may not be apex seals bc the engine still has decent oomfth at high rpm and itldes pretty decent but its the sound thats thorwin me off...if it were apex seals id have a bad idle and the power wouldnt be so high but it still runs ok but the sound is horrendous

so my runs werent a huge concern to me (until i was off course three runs ina row) and so i brought big jon and he showed me where i went off, the very LAST gate b4 the green cones ur supposed to go straight but i was braking, and turning slightly left, and then goin thru the cones.

78,77,75 all off course

72 on course for run 4.

whateevr, i survived the cold and so did my car so im like whatev.
i am way too sick to care about the car right now so im off to bed, maybe tomorrow ill go to work and see whats wrong with it.

for now, screw that thing, im goin to bed:cry:

If it makes you feel any better tons of people went off course all day. I heard more then one instructor say it was a confusing course and not very newb friendly.

That is pretty awesome for running a Forrester. What is done to that brick?

alwaysinboost 10-29-2007 08:10 AM

It was fun but there was a lot of waiting around. That course seemed like it took forever, whom ever designed that thing had a SICK sense of humor. I feel bad for those guys who got there early and had to wait until the 4th heat to run.

I went off course 3/4 runs so most of my times didn't even count :( . I kept on missing the one funnel after the second lane change, before the shoe string, on the back half of the course. It wasn't until my last pass when I took my friend for a run that noticed it. My best pass with going off course was a 69.xxx

I have pretty much replaced everything... i took my friend for a ride and he told me that the forester handles better than his car. he has a wrx with mostly all suspension mods.

Had fun, I saw a couple people from here there. I really wanted to stay all day so I could see most of the TST people run (and to hear TROLL's EWG) but I was beat after only 3 hours of sleep and having to stand out there working for FOREVER cause the second heat took way too long. Anyways best time in the Corolla was 75.1 +1 cone :\ First run I took it slow to learn the course. Second and third run I went off course at different parts and on the last run I hit a cone in the chicago box (the last turn). Overall I think I sucked :P Felt like I could've used a bit more power and of course I got raepd by the same Mini driven by different people in my class, those things need to be moved up a class :P

Anyways I hope to see lots of people running next season. I plan on running in 99% of the Philly events next year and hopefully I'll have a dedicated car for it so I don't break the corolla :P

TROLL 10-29-2007 01:02 PM

i think the day running so late threw a lot of people off. i was stressed to get to work but luckily got my runs in before i had to skip out. my last two runs were with mandatory headlights on and i'm sure the guys at the end of the line were racing almost total darkness. i'm content with how i did just because i was constantly improving, but damn i wish there was a run 5 and 6...

one8turbo 10-29-2007 02:57 PM

seriously, with two more runs i probably could have dropped another 2 or 3 seconds. I think i would have got murdered if i had to go when it got dark.
