I don't have any info on this. Rail side is different than bus side. Rail is under a different union, so that's why they're not on strike.

SEPTA going on strike in 97-98? is what made me buy my first car. It's adding more traffic around schools and on the road in general between 8am and 10am and 3pm and 5:30pm. I hate it but I guess I don't know what was offered to the union.

What I don't like is the fact that:
1.The strike was called overnight so most people had no warning. If I still worked at UPS on the 11pm to 3am shift like I did in 01 and left out to find I couldn't get home from South Philly to East Oak Lane, I would have...
2. It made it easy for businesses to get rid of employees citing their not being able to get to work
3. It's extremely ironic that they decided to strike right after the city just barely got their budget set. I guess they thought they would be desperate and do whatever they wanted...

With that said, I hope this ends this weekend. The longer they stay on strike, the more crime will increase in the CITY and our kids get even further behind in their education.

I should point out that most of us don't want to be on strike. We're in the dark as well.

However, most of the masses don't even know what's going on here anyway, or anything about what we get paid or any of that, so it makes no difference what I say.

I have no idea what your little strike is about, but I lost sick days, and my health care contributions & co-pays are going up. It sucks, and I can't do anything about it. On the other hand I do want the business I work for to survive because I like my job.

If this is your time to sign a contract and SEPTA wants to reduce wages and benefits then fight them on it. If things pick-up 6mo. from now, and you're stuck in a crappy 3yr contract then yeah I'd be pissed too...

Most of the union likes the contracts that have been offered.

However, the need of the one (234's "voice") outweigh the need of the many.

You have to wonder when the man who is "negotiating" our contract only has 1 year of service left and keeps turning down great contracts because the pensions aren't there.

Most of the people on this site are too young/ignorant to understand anyway. I may be young but I have been on both sides of the fence. I am in the carpenters union and i can't speak for both sides of the fence here. There are alot of things i like about the union and alot of bad things i don't like. But when your contract is up and they want a third back in wages, you tell them to go **** themselves. Thats what most Corporations are trying to do. Septa employees don't make that much to begin with. Average is about 18 a hour i would guess. So go ahead and think they are greedy but how are they supposed to feed their families too.

If people in america would have gotten together and spoke out about the way the government was running, we wouldn't have gotten our selves in this mess to begin with. Unions give people power. What those people decide to do with it is the important part. If everyone in America would stand together and show the government that they are tired of being ****ed by the upper one %, it would change drastically.

My father runs crews on the tracks and he said it was just a accident. The track inspector wasn't paying attention. Track inspectors, inspect ALL the tracks each day. The trains do not slow down. The driver did see the inspector but it was too late. Those trains go about 80 mph. Its ashame. Guy had a couple kids too. And was kinda young. My dad was pretty upset about it.
