your friend needs to do a lot more research and learning before he carries a weapon. show him the link below and tell him to study it carefully (especially page 11-12). the idea that you're going to effectively stop a threat with one shot (short of carrying a Howitzer) is ridiculous. it's pure hollywood.

edit* - a quote i heard somewhere says it best... "anyone worth shooting is worth shooting twice"

if anyone is actually interested in learning a thing or two about the science behind it all, read the FBI article. it's a really good read, TONS of info and obviously from a very reliable source.

Quoted for Truth.

Unless you have a central nervous system shot odds are the person isn't stopping with one round.

As far as the comment of bullets the purpose of a hollow point is to expand and cause more damage than a full metal jacket. Hence the "mushroom" shape. If you look at the image I posted, the stats are on there as to how much the bullet expanded. In layman's terms it makes a bigger hole in what you are shooting.

Isn't there a pretty big bar/college scene in West Chester? I'd hardly blame it solely on a city almost one hour away.

Its like getting cut with a jagged blade as opposed to a sharp one. personal defense rounds are designed for stopping power, they spread open on impact and 'shred' flesh, internal organs, arteries etc causing more serious trauma to an attacker. Standard full metal jacket rounds fly faster, and make much smaller holes. If a fmj round doesn't hit a vital organ or artery and passes cleanly through, an attacker could potentially still continue attacking.

also, there are places in your head that you can get shot and still survive.

EDIT: I am not saying that defense rounds will stop someone in one shot, or that standard rounds definitely wont. Not trying to get into a 'stopping power vs. shot placement' argument here...

I work at Gilmores, Right next door.

One of the guys in my kitchen was interviewed by the police because he saw it when he was about to go home.

Scary ****, happened a week after the same guy in the kitchen was riding his bike in town and 3 guys tried to steal it from him. And this guy isnt small either, hes a big ass mexican guy.

There is but there have been a lot of seedy people from outside the area making the trip to West Chester over the past year or so.

Correct. If you look at most of the news stories lately in "Police News", a lot of the people being caught are from Delaware, Philadelphia, Coatesville & Norristown.
