He can correct me if i'm wrong here, but I believe he made that 301hp on the STOCK 2.0 block with just the exhaust and vf34 with tune upgrade...which I believe was how he bought the car.... His current setup with the 2.5 shortblock is still in its finishing stages of having the bugs worked out.... So he actually didn't spend much money at all to make it to the 301 mark I don't believe..

Yeah the 301 was on the old 2.0 set up. Give me a few weeks I'll show you what my new set up makes with open source!

Maybe I should clear something up about OpenECU. OpenECU can do "nearly" everything that the AP can do. The only differences are launch control and changing maps on the fly. And neither of these features are important. OpenECU has no license fee like EcuTek, so you only pay a tuner to actually tune your car, you do not pay for the software or any additional hardware. Then when you change your mods, you go get another re-flash. It will save you a lot of money!

The truth has been spoken, just get yourself a tactrix cable and you can flash your own maps into the ECU, it takes 2 minutes to pull and switch a map.

Remote switch with Utec takes even less time then that  oh and no cable or pc required.

$900 vs $90

How many times have you changed your map this month? :-p

I'm not trying to make anybody cry.

I'm saying for FREE you can have software that can do anything a $1,000,000 AP can do. Why spend that money when its not needed?

If open source can handle my build it can handle an 07 wrx.

Vypurr 11-19-2007 01:51 PM

OpenSource (OpenECU) is the EXACT SAME THING. The interface is SOOOOOOO close to that of EcuTek. The features are identical in every single way. There is honestly no reason to buy an AP. For the cost of the AP, you can buy your downpipe, and pay to have your car protuned using OpenECU. You can do whatever you want because I don't care. But why pay for hardware which isn't necessary and then pay someone to tune that hardware when you can use OpenECU and save all that money?

I have an STi, and guess what I use OpenECU. Not because its cheaper, but because its dumb to not take advantage of something so good!

Actually I got mine for 250 and I don't change my map yet. But after the tranny work gets paid for I am going to look into installing the switch to swap maps when I am driving in incredibly crappy weather. I'm going to hop back over to your thread to see if there are some updates on the incredibly shrinking HP.

Thats a weak excuse for map switching. The gas pedal is usually what you use to modulate power during bad weather. :-p

LOL! The only thing you should be switching around is a pump, race and maybe valet maps.

attention sti owners..because you bought a good form of engine management instead of using OpenECU, not only did you waste your money, but consider yourself dumb for not taking advantage of something so good!

Ok so they should feel dumb for buying a good form of engine management? Nothing to feel dumb about. Some people don't take the same faith in things like OpenECU, you obviously do and hey that's great for you. I've always seen programs like that, to be an easy way for someone who doesn't have a clue to get a couple maps offline and drive around "Tuning" peoples cars. That's why I choose not to use it. That and if I want to put my car back to stock, it's a map selecter switch away. I don't have to rely on hooking up a cable and laptop or any other crap to do it.
