240SX stub shafts. Different for VLSD?

So I installed the VLSD I have had sitting around for a couple of months(finally). Obviously not a terribly hard install, but I did run into an interresting little, we'll say dilemma.

The stock open diff stubshafts are held in with rings in the actual spider gears. Are the stubs on the VLSD floating? There is no method of positive retention that I can see. Also it looks like the VLSD one for the right side MIGHT need to be a bit shorter.

Any ideas anyone(Ivan...?)? I am going to button it all up anyway, just to see what happens, but I would like a solid answer if anyone has one.

Thanks in advance,

mike

I've heard the VLSD shafts dont work because they're tool long and the snap ring groove is too shallow, but they can be machined to the proper size.

and yes, the vlsd shafts are different lengths

I noticed that the nonVLSD stub shafts are also different lengths as well. Guess I should look for some VLSD stubs now.
(or weld the stocker )

you have to look for the proper vlsd sideshaft, vlsd from 300zx, j30, s14, all have different output shafts, you have to mach it properly

Looks like I am welding the diff then, just because it is already out and easier than tracking down the original vehicle on this 5th hand LSD. And it's not my daily diver.

I have heard some stories about the tail coming around in the rain, but the ABS still works and I have been sliding various POS' around in foul weather for years.

Anyone know of a write up on the best way to weld the spiders?
