pretty sure it's just a pat on the back and a promotion.. or having prior sales experience if you're starting new somewhere.

Most dealerships will have you take a few day long sales course. Why would you want to get into auto sales anyway.

There's no classes or certification.

You get your training from the other salesmen and managers. Basically, they teach you how to be sketchy.

Any type of salesperson to do well needs to 1. Dress appropriately 2. Be well spoken, but not to the point where you sound condescending to a customer. 3. Be honest and make lots of eye contact. 4. Know your product and the competition's product

I would add to that work your ass off.

It could be a fun job where you make a pretty good living. You just have to be willing to go one step further then the other guy. You can see it when you go into these places. You can tell right away who is the top salesman and the guy collecting a paycheck just by looking at them.

You have to be confident, professional and love your job.

One of those f***ers made fun of my Legacy one day...called it a pos...grrrrr. lol

You can just go in for the job like any other place. You don't need anything special, well maybe a personality. I will say though, selling cars is a great job with great benefits, but ONLY if you are good at it. If you can sell a lot of cars than I assure you, you will be taken care of. If you simply aren't a persuasive people person, you wont go far with it at all.

Besides driving awesome cars home during breaks, their are countless free vacations for top sales people. Dealerships are also good places to make connections in the car world.

Also you work a ton of hours. You are basically there from open to close on the days you work and thats usually 5 days a week. Its a tough job and I have wanted to due so myself but dont think its for me. When you start off you are given somewhat of a salary but it tapers off as you work there long. It is basically a straight commission job when you get down to it. So if a weekly paycheck that is a guaranteed amount is what you are lookin for this is not a job for that. There is money to be made and a lot of people become very successful in the industry it just takes time and people skills. I hope that this is helps, but must of the job training and certification is hands on, on the job training. Usually either you got it or you dont. Good Luck

I have thought about becoming a car salesman myself. If I did it would be selling cars that I just love. Thats the only way I could do it. I can't fake enthusiasm.

Had the economy not turned to **** I really might have take a job at Jaguar if they wanted me. I am a Jaguar NUT. I would be happy working there all day and hanging out.

You are going to have to be there every Saturday too. Those are their biggest days considering everyone with a M-F job has off that day usually.

Most dealers will have you take a personality test. They are looking for people who are very out going. It is a tough business. I spent a few years selling cars and don't miss it. I left the business when I got in trouble for not ripping off a customer. They also like you to to use pressure on the buyers. Good luck with your decision. BTW, I love going to buy a car now since I know how they work.
