Oil catch can with baffles?

Can anyone tell me of an oil catch can that is baffled? I want to get a catch can to relieve/vent my crankcase. I've just been venting the crankcase to the atmoshpere and its not enough. Most of the catch cans I've been looking at aren't baffled like the Greddy unit, which to me doesn't make it any better than the copies that are floating around.

Cusco/Sard are they baffled? I saw a Perrin catch can and I didin't like the design of it and for the price forget about it.

I'm thinking of just getting a copy and cutting it in half and welding in a baffle. What do you think?

Edit: Just found this, looks interesting. AMW catch can that is baffled.

Hmmm. Boomba has alot of good feedback for that catch can. Some people mentioned an internal baffle, but I wish I could find some pics of that can taken apart to see the internal design.

I will definetly keep that catch can in mind. Thanks

can you explain what baffled vs unbaffled does? i assume it helps to catch the oil from being passed through the can?

Just from a quick read around like you just said it helps with catching the oil from going back to the intake track. I figured if there isn't a baffle in place to seperate the inlet and the outlet the oil/water vapors will go into the catch can but continue on into the intake. Like the Greddy catch cans the inlet/outlet are at the same level and without a baffle so oil in then oil out.

So if you ad a baffle it will keep the two lines seperate and help with condensing and slowing the oil/water that is going in and help it not track back to the intake.

Here is a simple right-up I just came across that modifies a Greddy catch can with some mesh and a piece of pipe to act like a baffle. Greddy catch can MOD

Next time I see you with your car, make sure you remind me so I can check it out..

What color is it and how big is it? Fairly air tight?

It was a couple bucks from Depot. It's airtight. It has a little nipple on the bottom so you can emty it without taking it off and it's like 4inchs tall. It's not real big. I used to drive my car 100+miles a day when I emtied it once a month

Edit: black top to it with a clear "tank" that screws on to the top part, and brass fittings for the two hoses.

Cool, thanks man..

Edit: On post number 5. I think the Greddy catch can mod can be made even better with a shorter piece of pipe with a 45 degree elbow with another short length of pipe to "shoot" the oil/water straight down into the mesh. This will leave even less of a chance for the oil and water to track back to the intake.

i don't really trust steel wool as a true baffle... b/c not all the vapors go through it 100 percent...
one thing i would try is an inline filter which would definatly catch oil vapors...
one that is reusable too

Very true, but its better than having nothing. I think the whole point of the steel wool is to slow down or help condense the vapor. The actual baffleing would be coming from the make shift pipe changing the entry/exit points of the vapor's.

The inline enclosed filter would be a good idea also. Would you put that before or after the air/water seperator? Or run it by itself?

Maybe before the catch can to condense the vapor so that it could drip/splatter into the catch can?

I think he's talking about the link up top that modifies a greddy catch can.

the wool helps create more surface area and to disrupt airflow in the can. this allows the oil to precipitate out of the air.

I'm also doing my homework on catch cans since my galant is an oil pig.

Ok, I tried the Home Depot catch can mod and it works!! Not only does it work but I kinda like the way the can looks also.

I went to Home Depot and got a Husky air compressor filter with 3/8's hose connector's. Plumbed it in and went for a cruise got back home and looked at the catch can and it cought about 2-3 ounces of nasty fluid!

Maybe later I'll throw some steel wool in there to help and I kept the 5 micron filter in there also.

The Husky oil/water seperator cost around 20 bucks and is internaly baffled..

sweet, glad it worked out for you. I'll be doing the same when I get home.

now question for you - how 'nasty' is that fluid you're catching? same color as your motor oil or is it fouled up?
