Need help asap. 2.7T issues
He's interested in just going for K04 turbos right away and I want to know the following. -What other supporting mods are required to run K04s. Not all out but reliably and just a little over stock level for a while? -Can he just have the turbos swapped without being tuned and run ok for a while, or is tuning a must for this mod? -And finally, what are some good, and not too expensive audi/VW shops in our area that he can take the car to cuz the dealer is outta the question. I really need to know some stuff asap, and im doing alot of other stuff on this as well, but i just figured tst may be able to help out here. Also, if Im missing something here, please point it out. thanks |

k04s should bolt directly to stock manifolds(IIRC), but they are restrictive. k04s are only slightly bigger than the k03s so if he just wants it for reliability everything should pretty much just bolt right too that was stock. the k04s only breathe a little better too so he MAY (idk) be ok w/o a tune at first... but i would HIGHLY recommend it..

the added concern with the A6 2.7tt was if it were an automatic/tiptronic. even with just K04s, i have seen tranny's have an early demise. the 4.2 is a "less tunable" motor as you mentioned but it is pretty solid. it has its own host of maintenance issues though. the main maintenance issues that come with any of the newer but older gen audis include the following: 1. tb, wp, and thermostat have to be changed out every 50k mi 2. front control arms and tie rod ends tend to be recurring failure items 3. if it is an automatic, tc fails even at low mi on bone stock cars 4. wheel bearings 5. cv joints/boots some of the items above are cheap to replace. others are not. it is not to say that the above are not common with other cars but they are pretty if not overly prevalent among the v-dubs and audis. #1 tends to be the biggest cash drainer but it is not that expensive. |
