need help with 1990 honda accord

i have a 1990 honda accord, its automatic but has sport mode. recently its been automatically putting itself in sport mode. when it does this it seems like it doesn't shift back down to first when im taking off. and it wont shift into 4th at all. but then it will randomly get out of sport mode and work like its brand new. i tryed checking the trans fluid and i also tryed to disconnect the battery and reconnect it. so i dont know if its an elecrtical problem or a transmission problem. if anyone has any ideas to what the problem could be please let me know. thanks .

awesome help jackass
i have the same year accord...the car should be shifting at around 3000-3500rpms into the higher gear (i.e. from 3rd to 4th), but if youre in sport mode and on the gas, it holds it in the current gear until around 4000rpms... is it not going into 1st gear at all? when youre stopped, can you put it into 1st gear and drive or does it not work. if its not working there, then its a trans problem. if its not, then it could be an electrical problem.
