6/6-8 Watkins Glen, Rolex 6 Hours*Lots o Pics

Well this weekend was a super blast!! The weather was pretty much a hot but not sticky 90 degrees for the most part. It was real nice to finally meet up with some friends from the saturn board I frequent, as well as a good friend from here and his woman, along with Kate, my dad, and my friend John and his daughter Amanda.

The racing was pretty heated hahah. Rolex 6 Hours started out with a good bit of caution laps, but then once it got going it ended up being a pretty darn good race, and a pretty close finish in the Rolex GT class.

I can't say the same for the Speed Challenge Touring Cars. They ran a good 6 or so laps, and then one of the Mazda's and the 3 Bimmers got together and the remainder was ran under caution. They apparently damaged the wall too bad to even repair before race end. The Speed GT race was up next and that ran totally smooth. I was very disappoint with the touring race, that's what I was looking forward to see the most the entire weekend.

I took just under 1300 photos, and am in the process of going through everything now and posting an album. I did upload some of the best shots though and they willl be posted in this thread. Keep in mind, these are totally unedited photos. I'll get to that later. So much to go through.

Wow, bunch of nice pics. Thanks. I didn't see this race, but I love that track and from way back years ago I've seen many races there ...CanAm, F1, TransAm.

Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas won the Daytona Prototypes, Emil Assentato, Nick Longhi, and Jeff Segal won Rolex GT in the #69 RX-8.

Randy Pobst won the Speed GT Challenge race, and Michael Galati the disappointing Speed Touring Race.

Camping was $50 a carload for the weekend, and the weekend ticket was $35. And gosh, it was such a great time. I am loving photography, and this was the first true racing I've gotten to shoot with the new stuff. Progressively getting better the entire weekend with it. I had such fun!

Now, to convince someone to give me a photopass to get the real good shots hahah. It's so hard at that track to get close enough, and to see the cars at some points. They have big catch fencing in areas now that are just terrible.

hey I was there on saturday as well. I went with a bunch of GTO heads and we all had pontiac GM passes with the meal ticket and all. the rx-8's sounded amazing, almost like f1 cars.

when were the speed touring cars on the track? sunday?

we were talking to the guy with the #06 blue and grey GTO and he was pretty cool. a couple of the gto guys are actually going to hang out with him since he lives near them.

Ahhh yea, I seen all the GTO's parked in the one lot on Saturday I believe hahah.

our truck just came back from NY today and we got to inspect the damage from the wreck our mazda6 was involved in in the touring car race......the car is completely destroyed IMO....the front ANd rear are completely smushed.....ill take pics tomorrow and show them...

oh you guys had the mazda6 down there? now that I look back I wish I should have stayed for sunday since my pass was good for both days. I would have liked to see them race.

the race lasted 5 laps...after the multi car wreck on lap 6 the rest of the race went under caution....they worked to clean up the mess but it took all the time left in the race that was allotted for the touring cars

And that was the biggest disappointment I have ever had at a race. Again that's the series I really went up there to see, and then to only see 5 laps sucked. What happened in that accident anyway, we were camped down in the boot at the time, and that lap I seen all the Bimmers were gone and then the race never restarted.
