Anyone know where I could find a R34 Skyline GTR?

Exactly as the title says, looking for a R34 skyline GTR. I'm not even sure how much they cost or if we can make them legal here, just looking for info.

Does any nissan guys have any information that would be helpful? Thanks in advance!

There used to be a place out in California called MotoRex but they were shutdown a few years back for providing false crash test information or something. I don't know where you could go now besides just searching ebay for one that is already titled in the US.

*edit to add the MotoRex story*
Recently, a vehicle which came to notoriety is the Nissan Skyline, which was featured prominently in video games, movies and magazines. This vehicle, being exclusively sold in Japan, became an object of interest and in 1999, a California company, Motorex, sacrificed a small number of R33 GTS25s for the purpose of crash testing. They submitted their information to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and petitioned them to allow 1990-1999 GT-Rs and GTSs to be imported, at the condition that they were modified to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Many Skylines were subsequently imported through Motorex. This lasted until late 2005, when the NHTSA became informed that not all 1990 through 1999 Skyline models would perform identically in crash testing. Motorex had submitted information for only the R33, and told the NHTSA that it was sufficient for all R32, R33, and R34 models. According the further review by the NHTSA, only 1996-1998 R33 models have been demonstrated as capable of being modified to meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards. After that, only these 1996-1998 models are eligible for importation. In March 2006, Motorex ceased all imports and Motorex principal Hiroaki "Hiro" Nanahoshi was arrested and held on $1 million bail on financial, kidnapping, and assault charges

I see them once in a while being sold by Jeremy Blackwell of SpeedForSale http://www.speedforsale.com/ He is very highly reliable and the ones he sells are legit and legal DOT approved for use in the U.S. I don't see any on his site now.

IMO these guys are also very reliable and trustworthy http://www.vipimports.com/ They seem to have an R33 GT-R for sale now, but at other times I see all sorts of Skylines there. As you probably know, you just have to keep an eye out for a car like this and get on it as soon as it's available so you can check it out or have it checked out carefully and make an offer quickly or it's gone.

Once in a while I also see private sales of Skylines at places like Supraforums "other cars for sale" but I would rather buy from a reliable dealer who's checked out all the paperwork and details ...costs a little more but the peace of mind would be worth it to me.

I am just curious how you inspect such a car every year? Do they have OBD-II ports since they were from Japan?

^ Doubt it, Japans emissions, hell, even thier gas octane is different from ours.

I THINK, think, they are close to 50 grand, at least. The GTR's are hella rare, and even more so expensive. But man are they badass.

I think they are easier to find in Canada than the states, a guy on another forum just got an 89gts-t, not sure how the GT-R would be

dont feel like reading everyone elses posts so I'll just tell you what I know/what I've heard. I've heard that theres only 1 LEGAL way to get them into the states now, and that is to have the entire thing dissasembled, shipped here, and reassembled, which classifies it as a kit car. The other way I've heard is to just put s14 vin tags on it.

240 vin tags isn't legal. Legally, you can title it here in PA as a vehicle not distributed in the US. However, you cannot drive it as a registered vehicle. It could only ever be a track car or a show car. However, how bad ass would it be to have an autocrossed GT-R? This is giving me ideas....

they cost about 90k now too. I see some legit ones for sale sometimes but for the price I'd rather get a Porsche 996 turbo, and in about a year or 2 a Porsche 997 Turbo

The problem isn't finding, buying, or insuring it.
Its whose gonna fix it (that you can trust) when it breaks....and I mean really breaks.

Nothing worse then gettin your Skyline, driving it 5 miles and it spins a bearing.
