With an SR swap its pretty much looking over the car like you would any used modified car. They are pretty much bolt in swaps since they came in the same chassis in Japan. About the only modifications someone needs to do to and American S-Chassis is T’ing the rear coolant line, swapping the motor mounts, and drilling a hole for the intercooler. The big thing to look for is evidence of poor workmanship. This would be wires everywhere, connections that look like they are held on by tape and a prayer and other things that would lead you to believe that the person who did the swap doesn’t know what they are doing.
These are the things I would check for - look for oil deposits around where the head meets the block (sign of head gasket on the outs) - bring a magnet and check for body work on the panels. A magnet will not stick to bondo - check for rust around the wheel wells and on the frame rails - do a compression and leakdown test on the motor to ensure that it is healthy - remove the intake from the turbo and check for any caked oil around it (to see if there is any blowby) - while the intake is removed, wiggle the turbo shaft to see if there is any play to it - one of the things to do on a test drive is while driving it, let the car slow down in second gear to around 25 mph and then mash the gas pedal for a second or two and look in the rear view mirror. If you see any smoke then walk away. - The last thing is to just test drive the car and be on the look out for any weird squeaks, rattles or other things that seem out of place Remember, this is probably going to be a car that is between 15-20 years old so it is not going to be in immaculate condition. Chances are it is going to creak a little and need a few things replaced. More than likely you are going to be looking at swapping out the bushings on it to get a firm ride out of the car. |

hahaha yeah i would recommend either bringing someone with you who knows
pretty much everything there is to know about 240s or i would look into doing the swap yourself or having it done by someone who is very reputable with sr20det swaps

that engine is good as long your not being an idiot ant race someone with 1Q of OIL in the engine and blown Turbo. My car runs like a champ with no issues, and I had it for a while. As long as you take good care of the car you won't have issues.

I kind of agree with everyone else. I wouldnt buy the car if it was a garage swap. I would ask for the reciept from the professional shop that did the work to the car. Otherwise, save yourself some money and do it yourself. An SR swap can be done over a weekend as long as the car was a DOHC manual. If it was SOHC then you have to massage a few things around and swap out the gauge cluster. Automatic to manuals are a biotch.
