Update on Roller Barrel ITB project for STI

Designs are complete

I wanted to emulate the intake setup on the JUN Hyper Lemon WRX below

But I've always wanted to have full, Formula 1 style, roller barrel throttle bodies on a car, and I noticed some areas that could be improved on the JUN setup. These components were not available for any Subaru application by any vendor, so I designed my own.

As you can see from the pictures, roller barrel throttle bodies are advantageous over traditional butterfly throttles because they have zero flow restriction at WOT. This should vastly improve engine response, and top end HP due to the new intake manifold design and the much smaller volume of air between the TB and the cylinder now. Intake manifold port length has been designed to maximize HP around 5000 RPMs. I should have completed components in about 1-2 months.

one question. where are you going to have vacuum lines. there is no room between the throttle body and the head.

edit: now i see those barbed fittings, very nice. originally someone told me you were usign tgvs and i was against it, but this looks well designed. autocad?

Solidworks 07. AutoCAD is 1980s technology and only marginally better than pencil and paper.

I just got the custom IC today. Once I get the ITBs done, it is time to fab the manifold out of Al piping (which I already have). Hopefully it turns out good, but I have to figure out the throttle conversion for the STI's DBW. I'd like to just move to a throttle cable and lose it, but I then have to rewire the TPS to the TGV sensor mounted on the passenger side ITB. I hope I could find a subaru cable ASS'Y at the junk yard to use.

Here's a couple more shots of the TB

Barrel rotates to direct air over the fuel injector on part throttle conditions. This is very similar to the stock tumble generator valve function, but this works all the time. This creates much more turbulence over the injector and gives much better fuel mixing and hopefully better MPG and HP because most driving is done at part throttle.

The above link is an E Drawings file that you can open and rotate and view all of the 3D models in the assembly. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Hold the mouse wheel button down and move the mouse to rotate the view.

I don't think you need to download the E-Drawing program to view it, but am not sure (program is already on my PC). The file should just launch on your PC.

Let me know if this works for you guys.

You never asked.

Full cable ass'y would help. The cable to pedal pieces are the most important. Do you know if the pedals are the same or do they need to be swapped out? You guys that do all the swaps are a wealth of knowledge about random stuff like this.

Great design
How did you come up with the dimensions for the throttle bodies and piping sizing?

I actually have in car video of it around Tsuba (SP), but not enough space to host it on my webpage. These are about the best pics you will find, but there are more available. Google pic search JUN hyper lemon WRX or JUN hyper lemon GDB

PICs of the IC. This cost me $530 shipped to have custom made. I couldn't even buy the cores alone for that price. There is another one available because the mnfr made 2 if anyone is interested.

I am leaving this as the standard rotated turbo mount (already on car-see my garage). In my situation, GodSpeed FP3065 kit.

Well it's nice to see someone doing something cool on here for once. I was getting tired of all the look at my new paint or look I put wheels on my car threads. It should be pretty badass once it's all done. Who are you getting to machine all the pieces for you?

Also, it looks like you have threads on those nipples? Is that a new function for SW07 or am I just an idiot and can not find it in SW06. I've just been putting the annotated cosmetic threads on all my drawings, but true threads would be nice.
