Burning DVDs, which program/type of blank dvd??

So when trying to copy a movie (for personal backup use of course) which type of dvd is best to use? I have dvd+r right now but i seem to be having problems with them. Also which program do you use? I have a couple, but just wondering what everyone else uses. Thanks

This is a definite hobby of mine so if you want the most reliable discs out there, pick up some Taiyo Yuden. They are awesome media! These are DVD-R.

For burning, yes, DVD Shrink will work. If you're a real stickler for quality, look into a program called DVD Rebuilder. If you use DVD Rebuilder in conjunction with the program DVD Remake Pro, you can have some real great results.

If you're not looking to go to over the top, DVD Shrink is an awesome choice. It's very easy and it lets you customize your DVD.

Same here, but for the DVD's that Shrink can't decode I found ripping with DVD Fab Decripter, running it through Vob Blanker then customizing and burning with Shrink works well.

Well I'm sure you are going to get a lot of different answers....but I can tell you I've been doing this for years. Some already know I'm a systems admin, and I am always working with computers.

Most of the programs mentioned have to be bought, (or pirated).
Use DVD Decryptor...(free) and DVD Shrink (free) and I guarentee you will NOT see a loss of quality.

If you need the programs, or more info, PM me and I'll tell you everything you need to know.

As far as blanks...I've been using Sony DVD-R for quite some time and have had no problems. To be honest though...its not always the brand that causes problems, many burners don't like certain blanks.

For instance, I use to use TDK blanks, but when I changed my DVD Burners to 2 new ones...they seemed to have problems with the TDK blanks. Ever since that time I've went with Sony and have yet to have a problem.

another tip: if you ever find a dvd that shrink can't seem to decript, install an app called "anydvd". it runs in your tool bar and will decript the dvd in the background so that any app you use will not have problems with it.

True true, but thats what DVD Decryptor is for also. Decodes the DVD, and makes ISOs of it if you want.

What i suggest is go to walmart/target and pick up one of the cheap like 35 dollar dvd players, those things play just about everything. Also make sure that your region is set correctly when you are making the disks.

if your playing a dvd on a good quality tv, you certainly see the loss from pulling data to shove it on a 4.7 unless the size of the flick wasnt far off from that to begin with. the quality is still good, but if your into that sort of thing you can definatly tell the difference from a dvd9 to a 4.7.

100% correct. A true 1:1 copy means burning a DVD movie onto another DVD Dual Layer Disc, which means the movie will NOT be compressed, and hence no loss of quality...
Using any program to copy and entire DVD down to a DVD 4.7gb blank will show loss of quality.

Yes, chances are its the fact that you are using +R....they've been known to have compatability issues.
