Seeking help from the group here since I know nothing of Vw's.

Looking for a simple, no nonsense, and reliable vehicle for my dad. It's going to do little NYC driving and highway distances in New England for fishing trips.

Just need pros and cons from knowledgeable VW owners.

97 passat/vr6/79k/auto - blk interior, silver color, good shape, ac/heat works, sunroof. Asking $5k - negotiable.

(I'm currently searching all the Passatworld & Vortex forums, but want information specific to this model & year.)

Make sure the timing chain and guides have been replaced on the VR. If its in good condition and the maintenance is up to date the price seems pretty good. As for owning a VW i had a MKIV GTI and loved every minute of driving it. Vortex can be pretty cold to newbs but do a search in the passat or MKIII forums and there should be tons of info.
