Using Rustoleum Paint On Wheels

I know about Duplicolor Wheel Paint, but I want to buy bronze and no local stores carry the bronze. I've heard of people using the Rustoleum paints, and I was wondering if they held up just as well with the correct prep, primer, and clear...

I used a high heat grill paint for my wheels years ago with no issues at all since. Check to see if you can find that in bronze. Wheels heat up a lot which I believe is the reason why you see guys with chipping / peeling from using any ol outdoor brand. If Rustoleum has a high temp grade you may be ok but unfortunately have no experience with it.

With proper prep, I've had success with krylon before and if you ask me, rustoleum is better than krylon so I'd think you'll be fine. Just need a good clear and good prep!

i think the duplicolor paint is worth searching for, then again its all in the prep. Ive painted two sets of wheels with duplicolor rim paint and rim clear and since i stripped/sandblasted the rims and used aluminum etch primer they really last unlike kids who just scotchbrite their stockers and throw 4 coats on in an hour and have to "touch up" their rims every month. Well im sure if you prep it well enough it shouldn't matter what paint you use.

I used Rustoleum paint to refinish my wheels. So far they havent chipped and have been subject to an AutoX and some triple digit stops.
To refinished the wheels I took the following steps. The paint I used was semi-gloss rustoleum spray cans.
- Cleaned the **** out of the wheels with soap and water
- cleaned more
- scuffed with red scotchbrite pads
- cleaned more
- masked a ton
- sprayed the paint, about 5 light coats on each
- let dry

I still need to polish all of the lips.

I've spray bombed a couple sets of wheels. I had good luck with the ones that I cleaned and cleared (even if it's spray bomb clear). They've held up pretty well.

You have to remember to be patient with those metallic paints, use a lot of very thin coats or else it will look like ****. Also I would lay the wheel down, since it's metallic it's thicker so more prone to drips. How do I know this? I used to use a lot of spray paint.

I used the Walmart $1 rattle can paint on my wheels. They lasted about 3 years before I chipped one with a lug wrench.

I think I might just get them professionally sprayed by my friend at a body shop.
