Need help selecting a flash for my d3100

Hi Tst,
I've been looking into some flashes recently and im not to sure which flash to pick up. Im looking to buy one decent flash to use for regular photography that may be compatible with my i-ttl and maybe 1-2 other cheap flashes that do the job to use for wireless flash. As you can tell im on a little bit of a budget. So anyway heres what lenses i mainly shoot with.

base 18-55mm
and 28mm f/2

I had these in mind

get an sb700, or a used one, or an sb600 if you can find one. Otherwise you are spending money on a flash that is not going to work with iTTL, will have terrible resale value, and will likely break quickly. Don't waste your money on an sb400, you can't swivel the head, negating about 95% of the utility of an external flash. If you want to go fancy with multiple flashes then you can get some cheap triggers and cheap flashes like above, but I would start with good flash first, because that will be a much better bang for the buck with your combo.

Yeah i looked into the sb's i defiantly cant see my self paying full price for one since my photography is just for fun and im not making money off my pictures, so if i can find one on c/l or any other sites for maybe 150-200 ill buy one.

My real plan was to have one nice flash for family parties and events (nikon sb or something decent) and have two of the cheap flashes and triggers i posted to use for my car photography for night shoots, etc.

If you know anyone selling a flash lmk!

It really dosent matter what brand flash you buy or how old - just as long as you have manual controls on it (you want to learn off camera lighting, you'll need manual controls on your flashes)

I would suggest that you stick with one brand however for consistency with light temperature. For instance, I have an SB600, SB700 and a vivitar 285hv, the vivitar was always a bit warmer than the nikons and played havoc on my cameras auto white balance - and can be a PITA to white balance manually..do I usually have to cool it down with a gel.

dude the sb700 is the way to go. Its a cheap-ish flash and it's really easy to learn. Just get ready to start using arm muscles when attached to the 3100, it goes from weighing nothing to weighing 10lbs lol.
