::VIP:: BMW 740iL Build Thread (E38)

Whats up, my names Mike. Im from Wilmington Delaware and this is my 2001 BMW 740iL I bought last September. This is pretty much a cut and paste of what I posted in my new member thread but I will be updating this one as the mods come.

When I first got it:

First real mods were 2 Kicker Comp 12's powered by a Pioneer GM-6200F amp and 18% tint.

Didn't do much during the winter because I had to replace my alternator, water pump and central support bearing.

Eventually picked up one of these:

Then got a hold of some Plasti-Dip and Nightshade:
Kidney Grills

Sidemarkers

Rear "740iL" badge

Decided to pick up some new lighting at the beginning of the summer so I got some of these:

And a pair of these:

And ended up with:

Thats pretty much where she sits right now. Next mods are either some FK Highsport or NEX SS coilovers and Uminitza Angel Eye's.

More Random Pics:

C&C Welcome. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Thanks for looking.

I definitely like these..

What are your plans to actually make it VIP-styled?

Going static suspension with some FK Highsport or NEX SS coilovers. Also plan to get some Uminitza Angel Eyes, full interior and exterior LED lighting, new 20x9 and 20x10 wheels (havent made my decision yet on specifically what type), tires and spacers, rear Jaguar tray tables and possibly interior accessories from Junction Produce.

Currently I'm saving up for some coils so it may be a while before I have it dropped but im shooting for near the end of summer.

Ill be doing minor mods in between (real matte black kidney grills and clear corners probably some time in the next month.)

Me and someone had a convo like that a while ago, Bimmer is for the cars and Beemer is for their bikes, or something along those lines lol.

Yes, that is correct. Most BMW enthusiasts would be seriously offended if you used the wrong term but I'm not too much of a stickler on it. Just thought it was cool you knew the right term.

Also - If anyone knows the whereabouts of any Work Equip E10's or Rota Reps, please link me. That is the style of wheel that I'm looking for.

Thanks, this will be and has been a daily for me. Once I have it lowered I hope to find a daily though because the roads/speed bumps around here can be unforgiving.

Btw, I reallllly dig Kouki'd S14's. One of my buddies was building a Kouki S13 not too long ago. Do you have build thread you could link me to?

As far as I know, no one makes a direct replica of E10's - they're too new and not all that popular. Rota's themselves are a Replica/Knockoff brand, so you really can't get replicas of replicas, nah mean? Varrstoen has been making some cool wheels for a bit, not all that sure if they're planning on making anything like the E10 though.

Hey man, I told you earlier that JDMmuscle has some VIP wheels for sale, here is a picture of the ones he has. They are pretty rare and especially in the sizes and offsets he has!

Thanks. By Rota reps, i meant the replica's of Equips that Rota made. I might be wrong but I could've sworn they made them. Ive also looked at Varrstoen's, VIP Modulars, and ADV. 1's but for some reason Equips seem to be my preferred style.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion, I did look at them but i dont prefer full face or near full face wheels. Ill definitely keep it in mind though as an option.

Like i said before, getting it lowered on some coils is my next priority. Wheels can wait because I do like my M-Parallels enough that they arent bothering me... yet haha

Just so I can set everything straight, heres what I'm looking at stance/wheel fitment-wise for the 7.

Coils

NEX SS

OR

FK Highsports:

Wheels

Work Equip E10's (brushed aluminum):

ADV10.1's:

Im open to other suggestions for wheels but the coils will definitely be between those two.

oops, also forgot Work Equip 3 Piece staggered wheels:

I hate how you have so few choices for coilovers but the e38 market is small.

I have heard some good reviews on the NEX coilovers but I dont know if they offer customer spring rates. I saw those FK's for sale on stanceworks a while ago so if they are cheap enough just snag them.
