so im pretty sure i just ruined something.... HELP PLEASE

so today after work i was being a moron and decided to rev my car up and leave the parking lot like a jack ass, i believe i hit the rev limiter for a split second. anyway while driving home the car started to progressively start to shake worse and worse( in the trans engine area) , it would only cease shaking if i was accelerating or braking, so im thinking i messed up either one of the bearings in the trans or something in the clutch? the engine runs smooth in neutral or with the clutch in. obviously i understand im a complete moron and deserved what i got.... but can someone maybe give me somewhere to start my investigation? thatd be great. again no need to bash. i know im f***ing idiot. thanks for any info you guys may have

Edit: so turns out the mechanic who did my alignment and wheel balance forgot to tighten my wheel lugs... unbelievable.... /thread

I was about to say your trans/engine is probally fine. They put a redline in for a reason, it is the max the engine should be run, not the breaking point. Glad ti was something simple.

^that kinda depends. The mechanic may have tightened the wheels. If they are alloy wheels they need to be retorqued within 100 miles of being mounted. The lugs tend to work loose sometimes in that first 100 miles.

Im paranoid about loose lugs. When I remove my wheels for any reason, I feel the need to carry a ratchet with a 21 for a day or two. Crazy? Paranoid? OCD? Probably. But I have had lugs come loose after torquing them to spec on two separate occasions.. Each time ive caught it as the wheel began to wobble, but still- scary experience that im definitely not trying to have at 90mph.

When I worked at a garage, we had a car towed in on a flatbed that had lost its wheel after being serviced... dude was not pleased.

Ive only ever seen it happen to aluminum wheels on cars, but also lifted trucks have it happen alot with 38.5" tires

We make our customers sign a copy of their work order that says we told them to come back in 30 miles and we will re-torque them at no charge.

If they sign it and call us a day or so later complaining that their wheel fell off... we have proof that we made them aware of it. Its a CYA thing.

Thats some bull****. No offense. Lol. If Im paying a mechanic to fix my car, I expect it to be fixed, test driven, and retorqued. If I have to make an additional stop back, thats time out of MY day. To be completely honest, that policy in itself would be enough for me to find a new mechanic. Take the time to test drive it for more than 30 seconds, so when you retorque the lugs, they stay put. That policy is merely a way to push off the responsibility of loose lugs.

If you wanna look at it that way then that's fine but now look at it this way. Time is money, If you're willing to pay someone to drive the 30 miles in your car so they can properly tq your wheels like stated then go for it. Sounds like you forgot that little thought in your rant there.
