clutch ate itself (pics)

On my way home from a 120 mile round trip I lost my clutch (which I purchased brand new less than 5k miles ago). Pedal went to the floor and lost pressure. It came back up but you could tell the pedal was doing nothing. I drove it home with no clutch (used starter motor to get going at lights, rev matched shifts) and pulled it out the next day to find this; the friction material was stuck in the pressure plate fingers, so they were stuck "in" yet the clutch was still engaged:

this is my garage, and the new clutch installed:

my car only makes 350ish rwhp, went with a clutch rated at 600 this time around

man the only thing probably worse than the hand grenade clutch is replacing it in the snow.

It was an Advance Auto "Perfection" clutch, a child company of Zoom

It seems their quality control is now crap, a few other people have now had them fail in the exact same way recently along with a few slave cylinders that leak brand new

oh well, it all worked out. this car was originally an automatic and I converted it to a 6 speed, only thing I didn't go big on was the clutch (had the transmission rebuilt/upgraded, upgraded master cylinder, decent shifter etc.) so it gave me an excuse to upgrade it. and I caught a sale when it failed so I got about $75 off on the clutch I had wanted in the first place

I bought a Zoom Perfection clutch for my 3000GT years back...was a big piece of crap, first one fried after 2 weeks of normal driving. Was replaced again and car was never the same. Wouldent chirp gears, always sounded like the clutch was slipping.

Whatever you do also dont buy a Spec brand clutch for T56...I bought one for my WS6 and had tons of issues after 3 months of driving.

hahah yeah I've heard nothing but horror stories about Spec units, mostly chatter and disengagement issues

I'm running a Diamond Stage 2 now (rated at 600hp), made by TDP and from what I know it was developed with the owner of Monster before the guys split ways. You'll notice by looking at pics that their stages 1-3 look 100% identical apart from the colors they're painted, which I'm sure is no coincidence. I'm also running a Tick (tilton) master cylinder. This clutch grabs HARD when you disengage it quickly and the tick master is sweet. I can slam gears like nobody's business now. I'm just concerned about the 10 bolt at this point hahah, the shock is a lot worse with this clutch on shifts and launches, but it drives extremely smoothly around town.

Well I'm definitely glad I bought an ACT for my car and not a zoom or any of those other cheap clutches.
