noob strobist question...

right now i am using a 430ex. Its great on camera, but i wasn't thinking that to fire it as a slave wireless-ly that i had to to fire the on board flash too (lame). (didn't research before i bought ) So now that i can afford to upgrade i would like to just go with a radio setup. The question i have is if i buy a set up, will i still be able to use the receivers to fire my 430 along with any other flashes. (basically, can i fire 2+ receivers all on different brand flash units.)

I thinking to just go cheap and buy a vivitar 285 for another flash along with my 430. and i was looking at the alien bee's cyber sync radio units.. would the set up work?

sorry for being so drawn out. once again, im still learning... thanks for your help.

Yes it will fire any flash that's hooked up to the receiver.

cheap solution i've used w/ the "pop-up flash" for when the speedlights are relatively close and in front if the camera. i think you said ur using canon, so its something you'd have to look into.

slides right into the hot shoe

edit: i dont see why it wouldnt work with canon, but idk how canons "pop up flash" works. maybe someone who is familiar with canon, can chime in

You just need to buy as many receivers as you have flashes and get the appropriate sync cables
