**REG OPEN** The 3rd annual TST Fall Run: The 2009 Pumpkin Roll

Ok it was a little harder this year, last year was fantastic and we had a lot to live up to when we promised an all new run for this year. So here it is the 2009 pumpkin roll. This years run is a little bit more then last years. A little longer, a little more winding, the turns are a little tighter, the roads are a little smoother and the views a little more dramatic. So here are the details.

The run is long this year running a grand total of 250 miles starting outside of Allentown and running through....well this year I'm just not going to say.

How to signup: Posting in this thread will not get you a spot, in a few days a number of participants will be set and an e-mail address will be posted. Once that address is posted (This week before Friday) you will e-mail me your name, screen name, car you will be driving and any guests. Signup is first come first serve with the list of participants being posted along with the list and order of those on a waiting list, if any. Do not take signing up lightly. Also we will not wait for you so don't sleep in. If you don't make the list but someone tells you where the start point is don't show up and think you will just follow or that really I am nice and let you come. You can't, I'm not and I won't. If you think I'm bad you should think about the group of people you'll be holding up.

If you decide to sign up for the run you will be sent a list of rules (nothin stupid just common sense) and things that will be required such as a two-way radio. If you do not follow the rules you will be told to go home and I hope you have a good gps do get you there from where we are going.

If your car is not in top shape it will break on one of these runs. It doesn't matter the speed or your ability, it's just a lot of stress on your car in one day. So if your car is off suspension wise, if your rocking out a set of $15 brake pads, if you've never had the pleasure of knowing what brake fade feels like before all of a sudden your brakes don't want to do their job please don't sign up. This is a lot of fun, and I do everything I can to keep it safe. Some common sense on your end will help me do that.

I was so looking forward to this run , with the upgraded brakes and all, but my clutch is giving me cause for concern, and god forbid I'm unlucky enough to wreck/ break something I'm screwed.....Perhaps if the day ever comes that the Merlin finds wheels attached to it...I don't care how twisty those roads are; that much torque will snap it into one long, straight, flat-out run :D

i have my own run similar to this. not as big but def some hick-ass roads. as for spiritted driving????? cmon i got a BMW "the ultimate driving machine" hahaha. the only thing im lacking at the moment is my rear sway bar link. its gettin old. that and i soft rear spring rate. so the raer end likes to float on high speed corners. but id be down.

Correction, if you thoroughly enjoy Brake Fade then yes, stock pads are A OK for you, otherwise, upgraded pads are a good thing. And have you been on any runs or cruise? anything over 10 cars is a huge cluster **** trying to keep everyone together. Keeping it at a low number keeps the pace satisfactory for everyone, opposed to having to pull over on the side of the road (if there is any) to wait for the people who got split up at a light. Pull your head out of you ass and . . .

Thank you busted but really if you think this is a dumb idea then don't sign up. It is a great day of driving and hanging out with car people. The rules and restrictions are there for everyone's safety and not because we don't want people to come along. If there was a way to have a 100 car group go, we would but that is impossible. These runs can be very hard on the cars, specifically the brakes and suspension and that is why we restrict stock cars. We put a lot of work into these for it to be messed up by someone that can't handle a turn or stop at the bottom of a mountain. The other thing to remember, this is not a race track. We go as fast as everyone feels safe and under control and not 100+ miles per hour. There are times we do pick up the pace a little but only when the situation and conditions present itself. i think stock brakes will be fine... i had at least 40k on my srt-4's stock brakes and pads when i went last year on Jon's run and the car held up fine.

my mustang is 100% stock... and there is no guarantee it will get any goodies before the run. though, i do want slotted rotors and better pads anyway... its just a matter of whether or not the truck sells... and if it does i'll probably throw money on some koni yellows that more than likely won't be installed by the day of the run :)

however, if i don't get the koni's i will more than likely purchase new pads and rotors all around, just need to double check what is allowed for the F Stock class :cool:

i know im not oging to this but it looks like a lot of fun and when i drove the Dragon in TN/NC, i was sure as hell glad that i bought Hawk HPS pads. i was riding on stock suspension but still did well enough to keep up.

I'm running Hawk HPS+ pads and I had brake fade within the first 2 hours. I am going to say your car more then likely came with heavier pads then normal and better brakes. But just so you're aware I've driven this a few times now and I get fade at the same spot every time. After that will be fine but since that spot is coming down a mountain I thought it best to let everyone know.

10-15miles of 40% downhill grade with 180 degree turns every couple of miles. He says brake fade but it was slight on his hps+ pads. I overheated my ****ty EBC greenstuff pads on my rear but no issues with my fronts but that has happened plenty of times before. It definitely isn't a route to run with autozone specials.

In two weeks we are doing our last trial run to ensure all the roads are still open and in good condition. We should have a few last minute pictures for you after that.

AX6 is the new name for Panther + pads. I run them on my Maxima...freakin love them for a daily car. I actually have done track events on AX6 (forever ago) on my 240...they held up great there too. They dust a bit, but it's worth it for stopping power

Carbotech is the best brake company, hands down.

i diddent mean to come off like an a-hole but it just seems like this is for some uber exclusive members of TST or something. i personally go to the annual ferrari cruise from algar ferrari in rosemont PA. they all meet up at this country club (prob 60 cars total, all exotics) and they let 6-7 people go at a time every 15 mins. not a hard concept. i wasent personally invited to the race cause i dont own an exotic but i know the route they take and its pretty challenging. i also know how much it sucks to be in a huge pack during a cruise esp if the leader is driving like a pussy. i also dont give a **** if u cant keep up, if you fall behind then o well. and im also pretty sure that people are capable enough to judge whether there "stock" car can hold up. like you said this isent an auto-x or HPDE, its a "spirited" cruise through back roads.

heres how u can make this cruise 100000 times better:

-allow as many people as want to sign up to go
-split up groups in 6-10 cars and let them leave every 15 mins
-each leader can memorize the route or have gps with them
-if you fall behind or your **** breaks (or doesent brake for that matter) then no ones gona wait for u, go home

TST has weekly meets in plenty of parking lots every day of the week. do u think they choose a lot with 10 spots and tell the rest of the people to go home when it fills up? just trying to open this up to more then 10 people. **** even if u had to do this 4 weekends in a row and only did 2 groups of cars per weekend. i just dont understand the "exclusiveness" for something that doesent come off to be "exclusive"

You still don't get it. Obviously people really enjoy, extremely enjoy this cruise. They do so, exactly the way it's been set up and organized.

You obviously have never set one up yourself. And you seriously sound like you are 15.

Let's consider your points shall we :

1. -allow as many people as want to sign up to go (Doesn't work that way. It attracts more attention from cops, this is on public roads, not closed off ones. It's also becomes more dangerous, the more people that come and the more tedious.)
2. -split up groups in 6-10 cars and let them leave every 15 mins (See my above thoughts.)
3. -each leader can memorize the route or have gps with them (Do you even think before you type? This is 250+ mile cruise.... tell me how the GPS is gonna know the exact route that has been mapped out by the leaders? IT DOESN'T!!!! And you can't make it either!)
4. -if you fall behind or your **** breaks or doesent brake for that matter then no ones gona wait for u, go home. (Unlike yourself, the people who organized this run are not assholes....and want it to be fun. Allowing someone to come whos car very well may and probably would break, would not be fun for that person. It would also be pretty ****ty thing to do, to leave someone who came along, stranded because they broke down. We are car enthusiasts who share a common likeness. The fact that you even mention about not caring if someone breaks down and it being too bad...makes you look like a complete jackass. )

The meets TST has don't go anywhere, they are in one place. Not to mention, as the meet gets bigger and bigger and more people hear about it, more and more idiots start coming, and then the meet ends up getting shut down because idiots can't control themselves. We don't want idiots showing up at a cruise, doing stupid things, and putting themselves and others in danger, or getting people in trouble.

And regards your 4 weekends in a row comment.....This is a whole day thing. It takes time, money, organization, etc. Are you personally going to fund the gas and time for the people who organized the meet for 4 weeks? I don't think so.

So bottom line is you're not going, so drop it.

Oh and btw...learn to count...its 12 people not 10. :roll:

Skater this is going to be my last comment on this topic. Beyond what everyone else wrote I only have this to add.

The first time we set up this run we had a list of over a dozen people and only 3 people showed. So every year I figure out the safe number of people to invite and the best number for getting through the towns (one year it was how many cars we could get through a stop light before the one way street changed directions) and I post up this thread. In my rules I ask only for common sense and just to let me know if you can't make it. You are focused on how to allow everyone to come along, and that's cool but you have to realize that the amount of work it would take and the risk with communities that may not appreciate a 3 inch open exhaust would only cause me aggravation. The point is (finally) I don't do this for TST, or the people that ask to come along, I do it for me. I do it so I can take a day with some friends and get out on some back roads and spend so much time focused on driving and the two way radio that I forget about everything else and when we stop all we talk about are the roads we just drove and the ones that are coming. Not about work, money, TST, etc.. just about the drive. So if making sure I have fun, and have that experience, means that only 11 people come with me so be it. If it meant only Bob, Cizin and I could go then again oh well. Because you see at the end of the day the drive is for us, we just let some people come along the last time we do it.

That being said, this thread is about the 2009 fall run, not how I setup these runs and certainly not to argue about it. To that extent please do not post again if your only purpose is to further this conversation. If you have anything to add feel free to pm me. If you wish to comment back to the specific people who responded to you please also do so through pm. For this thread this conversation is now over.

Well, I just got back from spending about 5 hours with a local mechanic. Had the stainless line put on, HPS pads, rear sway, oil change, trans fluid change, diff fluid change and a brake fluid change. Awesome right? WRONG. Now I have no brakes. . .

After running a full quart of Super Blue through it, and bleeding the brakes with the Motive Speed Bleeder AND the manual method. The pedal just goes to the floor the first time, then after pumping it, builds pressure. After driving a little bit down the road, same thing. Floor then builds pressure. He thinks because of this its the Master Cylinder. Me. . i have no clue. The only thing I can think that was done differently from the last time I bleed the brakes was that he starts pass front, pass rear, driver rear, then driver front. Where as last time, I did the recommended order which I don't remember off hand. I think it was pass front, driver rear, pass rear, driver front (something like that). As of now I am STILL planning on going. He said he would order the part in the morning and can be put on at night.

Can anyone think of any reason this ISN'T the Master Cylinder? Like. . something easy. . and cheap? :)

I've seen that happen when there is air in the ABS control module and also when a caliper is leaking.

When bleeding brakes, I usually do passenger rear, driver's rear, passenger front, driver's front to do the longest to shortest line.

Hmm, thanks. I will try to take a look. I know there was nothing leaking though. A new MC was ordered I am trying to look up info on the ABS lines. ****ing twats. I hate this. Of course it happens 2 days before the run.

UUGGGGGG. Just got back in. New Master Cylinder, brakes bled again 4 times. Brakes are SLIGHTLY better, but still not up to snuff at all. I am out of ideas. I may be forced to try to get it into a dealership tomorrow. If I can't. (I am about to tear up typing this) but I might not be able to go. Ok the official weather will be posted this evening but for right now it looks like this (copied straight from the local news weather page):A great weekend is upon us (perhaps a three day weekend for you) with dry weather and some sunshine both Saturday and Sunday afternoon along with temps near 60 degrees!! The leaves are peaking this weekend so with any luck we will see more on the trees then on the side of the road.

It may be looking like the red dragon of pure death will grave you with it's presence. It is looking like one of the calipers had air in it and is most likely getting replaced (the bleeder nipple would NOT open, we were bleeding it from the line). Still waiting on the final word. It was sitting in the parking lot. So, I am guessing they just ordered a new caliper. It's ashame it wasn't BOTH calipers. I would have them put on the 4 pot fronts :( oh well! I will keep you guys updated so that the list can be updated quickly if it turns out this doesn't work.
