View Full Version : What defines a "hot" car.

I'm just curious to what the tuner world has come to. I dunno if I am getting old or something but I just dont get the trends anymore. I was raised on the ideal that less is more. I think I hold to it very well. But I also enjoy going against the grain, staying away from whats popular and making it work. I also feel like a car should have an even balance performance and style. What does TST think a great car is defined by.

the size of the wing.
the bigger the wing the hotter the car...aluminum wings ftw!
extremely big spoiler, a bad ass body kit, lots of stickers so you cant see the paint on the car, some 22's, loud system with no base, almost forgot the seat covers and multi color under glow! ps: sorry to all the ppl i offend.

it depends on the car, i don't think there's anything that can be generally stated for a hot car.
you just kind of know it when you see it. But whether or not your car is hot to you is really all that matters.

What makes a car hot from the factory or what makes a car hot when modded/personalized?
omgjacki
07-12-2008, 08:32 AM
I think wheels and fitment make the car. Just my opinion. I can't stand black wheels with the chrome/polished lip, though.
Body kits are EW but a subtle lip makes it look great, also.
I agree with Bill about it depending on the car, though. Just because a Daewoo has nice wheels, doesn't classify it as hot.

A HOT car is is one that can get a double take and make you want to talk to the owner , no matter what your usual preferrences on cars are.For instance , I personally can't stand pebble pushers. However if I see a slammed car that has all of the bases covered ; wheels , body , paint , audio and some GO with all of the SHOW , it's a HOT car. Same with a lifted truck or jeep. Most , if not all of us here @ TST know what its like to get one of those looks. If a person takes a bone stock car and makes it their own it'll (usually) be a hot car to somebody. There's a place for everything. APC wouldn't still be in buisness if there wasn't. LOL.

It definately depends on the car, but for me performance is key. The car can have all the exterior and interior accessories available but if it doesn't have the balls to back it up then I am not a fan. Clean, Subtle and balls to the wall performance is my definition of a Hot car.

That was pretty good.
I think it's a combination of a lot of things.
Look, sound, performance, and that little "something" that the owner puts into it.
Each one of our cars has a little piece of us in it...there's no denying any of that.
It's just convenient that some of us have similar tastes.
So far it seems to be working...

to me a hot car is something that catches your eye but is subtle at the same time. it has to flow,be drop at least an inch or 2 to clear the wheelgap but can also be slammed. i hate big rims so the rims have to go with the car. me myself i love power but it has to be unique anyone can buy a crate motor or drop a bigger motor in but if your doing the same thing as the next guy its lame. it all depends on the car and bodystyle. but 400whp and up:cool: its all good. 600 and up  i can also acept any car thats modded because thats the owners pride and joy

i dont care if you have a turbod hatch/coupe/240/whatever thats in the 11's if the outside of the car has different color quarter panels or is completley gutted and its not a 100% track car...full interiors FTW!..a clean car is a car with all the pieces inside and out.
if i think your car is hot and then you go and drive like a ricer like you're racing me even though you're going the opposite direction, you no longer have a hot car to me...theres a kid i see with a black cobalt ss/sc but evertime he sees me he has to romp on it like its the fastest car in the world and give me dirty looks and a few times the finger for no reason at all....and in all honesty thats one of the biggest turnoffs when i see a "hot" car.....the driver is a big thing, cause if you try and show off like your car is super **** and its not insanely fast chances are...people are just gonna laugh at you and be like what a douche...

well im not gonna lie, I see a supra or something cool/exotic just something you dont see everyday, im kinda hoping he takes off so I can hear the beast....but if he was looking at me intending to showoff (that look you can tell when), driving like a nut in traffic or blowing off constantly next to me(srt4s im looking in your direction lol), or trying to race me when my car is in a complete opposite league...i'm no longer interested cause it just shows me how immature you are behind the wheel of a vehicle...
usually come to find the people that drive like idiots, are the ones not paying for their cars...and the ones that do pay for their cars, must just actually be idiots.

Most people, especially girls think a hot car is any car with a bright color, two doors, leather, HID's, a sound system, aftermarket wheels, low, loud, and for some reason roadsters take the cake.
I was in a badass, I mean badass STi before all day with the owner- we drove around and the only people that jerked their heads around, followed us, tried to race us were a bunch of guys- muscle car guys, civic guys, and old guys!
I was with a dealer getting a ride back to the lot in a Yellow S2K- I swear every ****in' stop light a girl would roll down the window and be like nice car!

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that post!
I like a car that is modified in such a clean way, that it's hard to tell if it was or not to the untrained eye (which I realize now, my Volkswagen is just about the polar opposite of).
I also have a weird appreciation for cars from the 80's that look like piles of crap but are sleepers underneath it all.

To me....a hot car is something you can look at every day and not get sick of. A simple, classy, very fast, and comfortable car. Those flat black scoobs and other really "mean" looking cars would defiantly get boring to me after awhile.
I love cars that look very clean and simple on the exterior but they look like a ****ing LeMans car under the hood.

First word that popped into my head was quality.
Beyond anything else if the work performed and the pieces chosen are quality, well fitting, and matching the make/model shouldn't make much of a difference.
And definitely originality....to a degree.

I hear that. To me it's a car that makes me look twice no matter what the make. Not....oh its a domestic it sucks...or oh it's not RWD so it sucks, or oh it's not a V8. I think you need at least some drop (on a car), clean tint job, a sexy set of wheels. A power adder is a plus for me but I'll settle for a nasty set of cams. If you have a fart can you are automaticly disqualified

I love a car that pushes boundaries, something that makes you double take to know what the hell is going on. Something that everytime you look at it, you find something else interesting even though you've already stared at it for hours. Doesn't matter if it's a drag car, a road course car, a drift car, or just a street car.
TGilb2007
07-13-2008, 11:32 PM
Simple but yet subtle body modifications, maybe add SOME aggression to the exterior if needed (really depends on car though). One thing that really matters to me is the overall stance of the car. You can have the best looking body parts there, but with wheels and stance not really sitting right, it really takes away from the car.
I am also more of a fan of the OEM+ styling. Taking body parts from other models similar to the one you have, and using them. Wheels that are stock on other cars, and make best of it.
Audio equipment should be balanced. If its loud, awesome. But it should still be clear. Hitting low, mid, and high frequencies for car audio really can set off the overall feel of it IMO.
Also, some mild performance isnt too bad to see either for street cars. Doesn't have to make 500whp for it to be nice.

see, those wheels that are slanted are just not right, thats not clean at all, thats flashy and if possible to drive its not for long, im all for if you have a bentley or something similar putting some 22's or something, but when you need to put your wheels on a 45 degree angle to get them to work with your car and drop, not clean at all.

I personally think there is no such thing as a 'hot' car.
I think fast cars are fast.
Clean cars are clean.

Hot cars ... are on fire? I'm serious. 'Hot' is the most non-descript and useless word to describe a piece of machinery ever, subjectively.

i think a hot car is just a car you really like and would want to drive/ own. and this ofcourse comes down to personal preference.
^^^ive always thought those preludes were HOT .... up until i learned they were front wheel drive... so in that case i think they look good, but i wouldnt want to own one... so i guess i still think they look hot, but just arent what im into.
also you could look at it how u look at 'hot' girls. what makes a girl hot to you? is she sexy? clean? good personality? intelligent? give you beeg bonah? would u hit it?
same goes for cars, just a different scenario. its just what YOU'RE attracted to
i like seeing purpose in a car. if you like performance, i want to see that in the car. if its for luxury, it better look comfy. i could care less if a car has stickers or a wing, as long as it has double the stock hp, and is able to do what it looks like it should do. if a car is gutted inside, thats fine. the owner has his/her priorities straight for their car. if you have full leather interior in your 'race car' thats awesome too.
no matter how long a post anyone makes, its just one of those things we all know, but cant quite fully describe with words

your car, completed. that is a hot car. If you can take the car that you have spent all the time with, and see the completed project. that is hot.
poisonivory
07-14-2008, 12:26 PM
this question is all a matter of opinion.
To me a "hot" car is a car that is tastefully done, and serves whatever purpose it is intended for. It can have 1 mod or 100 mods, as long as each mod has some purpose and function. For example, my car has tint, a suspension setup and a catback exhaust, thats it. For me, i love it; It's a daily driver, it's clean and serves its purpose.
Others will argue that a car isn't hot unless it has agressive wheels, a nice drop, a turbo setup, or any combination of the like. It's all a matter of opinion and preference. As mentioned before, it's how you perceive your own car. If you like it and think it's "hot", that's all that matter. I'm pretty sure 8 outta 10 people laugh at my car on the road, but i like it. lol

So its been said many times in this thread- but yes a sleek, clean car. For me that means subtle mods that accent the cars best features. This an be a bigger hood scoop, or the same in carbon fiber, maybe a slightly higher spoiler. Maybe a window tint, colored calipers, nice wheels. You get the drift.
It means performance too though. I mean a fast car that's about to blow the engine b/c the engine mods made it fast but not reliable-is not sexy to me haha. I think smart changes to make the car not only faster but stronger is a must. O and I just love the sound of a throaty exhaust.

"Hot" to me means a super clean car with quality parts that flow together and offer optimum performance. A subtle apperance that doesn't show off the car too much but has that POP when you see it (you know what I mean)! Also it has to be fast, a car that looks fast is just that. I wish i was there!
