View Full Version : IS300 or G35 Sedan?

Trying to decide on which of these two will be my next vehicle...
03-05 IS300 5-speed RWD 215hp
03-06 G35 Sedan 6-speed RWD 260+hp
They are roughly the same price, G35 a bit cheaper depending on options. I love the look and feel of the IS300 but for the same money the G provides 45+hp and better gearbox, but also looks a bit more bland. Anyone own one of the two want to weigh in?

Which would you rather have a Toyota or a Nissan? I think in the long run the IS300 is more reliable considering it's a Toyota.

i like the IS300 over the G35 sedan...i have been thinking about both these cars also along with 99-01 3series BMW

The 3 Series was also on my list too! ...but I dropped it because I like the newest (E90) body style better, I just feel the E46 is dated looking...
It is just hard for me to pass up the extra gear and extra 45+hp for less money... I really love the IS style and handling though

Get an IS300 and you can make it look like something like this. Compliments to CarbonIS

haha that was funny yes true lol
The IS300 is the best cey are a true sports sedan. the Handle WAY better then the G, you can have way more fun in the IS, better realibilty with the IS, and get better resale with the IS. I sold my 02 with 120K for 9500 a few months ago. It never gave me any trouble even past 100K miles. ran great its whole life, just basic mantaince. The G35's Ive seen come through here ALWAYS have stupid issues that add up after a while. Id take the IS anyday of the week.

Thats the point to life right..scraping subframe...
O.P. I would go with the IS simply becase Toyota is known for being reliable, and Nissan hasnt made the best quality cars on the market in the past 7-8 years. The IS IMO looks better, is more comfortable, and drives nicer than the G, and Im sure as Kevin said above, it holds value better. This is all given that Ive never been a fan of anything Nissan except the 300zx so you could say im biased.

P.S. OP, I got to drive an IS300 today, automatic though, and it was nice. Pretty comfortable, and good fun. I say go for that.

wow, okay so mostly IS300 votes huh? Kevin, sorry it's gotta be manual. Do you go to any of the auctions? I am starting to think about the G35 Coupe too... but they seem to have a higher price tag than the sedan by a few thousand.

Really? I've heard nothing but complete driver detachment regarding the handling. The newer ones handle very blandly IMHO.

IS300 hands down man... same motor as the supra... so much potential!!! and it's a lexus... there is some class as well.
I don't like g35's because it is an infinity and infinity used to make grandma cars for years and just got into the sports compact car world and now everyone thinks they are the best....
I've owned 5 is300's and every single one of them ran great and never gave me a problem.

LoL Ketchup FTW!
I personally LOVE the IS300, but at the same extent; same for the G series.
What do you want to have, something sleek and cruise-able? Or are you gonna go nuts?

honestly you cant go wrong with either car g35 Vq35 and the is300 got a supra motor. damn sure to be pretty fast.

Back to topic, I say IS300, for several reasons.
1. Its a toyota, reliability is on your side
2. Its got a legendary proven motor
3. Its smaller than the G35 sedan making it more agile
Here are a few points about the G35
1. Nissan is known for having problems with sensors and things
2. Not the best build quality
3. Not the finest material choices
Ive driven both of them, and I still prefer the Lexus, it just feels like a better built more complete car, and I think that its worth waiting around for one rather than the G35.
Also, a point of interest for you. In ~2001, Nissan was facing serious issues and almost declared bankrupcy, Renault bought about 50% of their stock. The 350Z motor is the same as used in the Renault Clio v6 Sport, and there are some design hints pointing to Renault (look at the Renault Megane sp?). Not to say that europe makes bad cars, but not known for the best quality control. A lot of Nissans have a cheap interior feel, and are very plastic inside, and they arent really famous for being high quality (look at the spec v, altima, maxima, the whole line). Spec V are known for eating oil, and so are Altimas, nissan even had a recall on this when they were at one point replacing whole engines for their customers. An infinity is a Nissan in drag, dressed up, but essentially use nearly the same powerplants, and I cant expect it to mean good things.
If you are dropping 15k on a car (and at this point it wont have a warranty), get one that you wont regret owning.
Just my 2 cents, others feel free to argue it.

actually you have that mixed up! Nissan's VQ35's are known for Oil Consumption problems. i believe there still trying to figure it out. not all nissans suck. the g35 is a very nice luxury sports car.

ps a note to the tst clown cleanneon, infiniti's run like champs just like every other car if you treat it right it will do the same for you. also they rarely have problems with sensors and the oil is not that common.

I used to talk to a guy who had a spec v..still does, he was burning oil all over the place, i dont remember the real details but nissan told him to keep adding oil at their expense, and i think he blew his motor and ended up suing them. I hear the same about the 2006 style 2.5 altima (reason i didnt get one). I always say to each their own, but id like some more info on this if you have it I cant find much on the actual engine affected, just the car, and the altima came with more than one engine, and that spec v could have been a rare instance.

Prove that statement. I see this
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=2005&make=Nissan&model=Altima
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=2000&make=Nissan&model=Maxima
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=2003&make=Nissan&model=Sentra
These are just the cars I looked into buying, and I still say the interiors are flimsy, the sentra reminds me of my old Neon. Yes maintenance is key but some cars are turds no matter how well you treat them. Ive gotten mixed reviews from owners about these cars, mostly bad.

Cleanneon...i respect your post...i personally know that G35's run better...I have tested both...I think the G handles better, sounds better, and overall performs better...
I cannot say which one lasts longer or who gets more for their cars...I am not an appraiser...
But from experience, the G35 coupe is a great car, and for the money, it is worth EVERY penny :)

I don't think a Infiniti G35 is comparable to a Nissan Altima just like an Lexus IS300 isn't comparable to a Toyota Matrix.
I must say I am starting to learn towards the G35 6MT sedan... I really need to drive one to get an impression. I really like the feel of the IS. I am not a huge freak about interiors, I mean it's an Infiniti not a Pontiac Sunfire, it's got to be decently put together. I am very happy with the overall quality of my G20t. The two major things pushing me toward the G35 is 1.) the availability (quantity) of Manuals out there compared to the IS (quite rare) 2.) the extra 45+hp
I don't plan on doing any major modifications. I/H/E, Streetable full coilovers, Possibly upgraded sways, and a decent set of staggered wheels...
I wonder if any members on here have a manual G sedan?

The G35 is not a sport compact. The G20 was a sport compact (it is no longer made). I see a lot of old ladies in Lexus' so that must mean they are bad cars, right?
You obviously have a bias, as do I. I figured I would share mine to even things out. :)
