This has just really been bugging me lately. Especially when I look at the S2000 forums. I'm sure the Subaru, DSM, and everyone else sees these same people.
The so-called "tuner." In my eyes, these tuners are just ricers.

I look into almost every thread on S2ki.com and it's some guys show car that just had $2k worth of "race" parts put on the car, so that it can look "hot" in a show. It's freaking pathetic.

Why put all of these race only parts on your car, so that it can look cute driving down the highway?? None of these cars ever once see any type of racing, they see a judge.

I modify my car to my tastes, to how I want it, to what makes me happy. I've seen so many guys post things like "well, the judges will really love this because it's rare." Who F-ing cares if it's rare? Wow, you waited longer for some super duper JDM piece that in no way outperforms some USDM product.

There's so much I could type about all of this, but I don't really feel like it. I'd rather get some other opinions on this subject.

I know what u are saying, but on the other hand i can see the arguement for some of the rare jdm stuff. Sometime that rare stuff is what people like and it fits their taste more then a plain us made piece. On the other hand i am in full agreement that people who do stuff to their cars to make them purely a show car is silly to what u want to your car, don't do what other people want. Its your car it should be an extension of you and ur taste. I don't know i don't get these kids these days :lol: . Guy on S2ki buys Hayward ITB's. Hayward is a proven company and they aren't some hole in the wall place that knows nothing.

Other "super JDM" guy says, " I would have gone with Toda since they are tested and proven. The japanese tuners use them." ---Whooptee freakin doo! Who cares what they use over there.

All of the 500+hp S2k's are running US made turbo kits, not JDM crap.

No need to get worked up over it. I can see both sides of the argument. Its thier money and thier car. If they want to spend a butt load of money on things that will get them a trophy so be it. Just be glad you like to drive your car and not trailer it everywhere.

Yeah I agree with ya man. Stupid ricers suck and ruin it for people who do anything to their cars and bring them to the TRACK.

Last saturday I went to my local drift event at e-town, but there was also Honda Day there. it was ridiculous how many ugly show cars or loud farty exhausts there were revving just in line to get through the gate. We are all well aware that they had a tuned honda, thats why they brought the POS to "Honda Day" in the first flippin place. I did see some nice S2Ks though.

An occasional glance at the time board I saw a few 12's, a handful of 13's and a at least one 11. But I saw more 15's and even more 16's then I could believe, even a 17 or 18 =0 that couldnt all be base line checking. </ricer rant>

The only thing that makes me angry is people that claim to be "tuners" when they've never tuned a damn thing in their lives. Putting an exhaust/intake/wheels/etc. on your car does not make you a tuner. When you actually dive in and start to modify fuel/timing/suspension/whatever then you can call yourself a tuner. The other thing I hate is the negative responses I get from being associated w/the retards. People see a big muffler and c/f hood on my car and immediately think I'm the same as dumbass over there w/his CRX and ****ty exhaust that makes a bunch of noise and goes nowhere. But then again, I hate everyone.

I just avoid the posers. Going to real races (sanctioned autocross, trackdays) weeds out the ricers. I would like the car to look nice and aggressive, but that is so low on the list of things to do, I may never get to it.

I would rather be at the track with the tuners than at the car show with the ricers.

i have a 89 honda crx.i do all my own work to it as of rite now i have a stock motor but working on vtec/turbo. i do have an catback exhaust and an intake. i am not slamed to the ground at all. making a track and a semi show.i do have a body kit on it and chrome tailights no tint of the windows.but to be forreal people talk **** but half the time they r walking or waiting for the next bus.i take pride in my car. and i dont care about jdm this jmd that to hell wit jdm.wat is the diff between jdm and usdm?nothing jdm is more money thats it. i am not a ricer!!!!!!!! as long as they run it and are realistic about its performance its fine with me. i agree with the whole "my cars super wickey fast but ive never taken it to the track cause then i might lose my chrome finish and the judges will take off points for it" bull****. i dont care what car you drive. i respect a well built car, used for the right reasons. not some kid in a civic with an intake and exhaust trying to run me on 332. If you can build a fast crx and not act like its teh fatest car ever good for you, thats respectable. but if you get some power and think you can smoke cobras and vettes then your a ****ing moron. same goes with the car show people, i dont understand how you can put so much into your car just so you can stare at it. if my woman had all this plastic surgery done and all these upgraded parts i know id be riding the **** outta her every chance i got. putting the biggest "race" turbo you can on a car you dont run is straight stupid.

The same can be said about people that buy $60k, $100K and up cars and take really good care of it. Some people would rather flaunt it rather than beat it.

I just can't hate these people cause they think different. The way I see it is if it is built well and has a lot of nice parts on it one day that person might want to sell it and I might want to buy it, lol... especially if I can get it for a good deal and not have to worry about putting all sorts of time into building my own, lol.

theres a kid that comes in to my work all the time that has a new sunfire of all cars (not downing him cause of his car), but he has nothing done but neons, rims, painted interior, stickers, etc... he came up to me one day and asked me how much to put a sc on it for him. i asked him if he was gonna race it and he says "nah, i saw another guy at a show that had one, so i want one". i couldnt help but laugh at him and told him to go somewhere else. i dont exactly have all that much done to my car but if i put a sc on my car it isnt gonna be for show

I get a kick out of how most guys have such a large selection of companies (in different companies) from which to purchase parts. If I want a rear anit-swaybar there is only one man who makes them for my car. Jonny Speeva of Polybushing.com. that's it. no other choice unless I make my own. want a performance cam? Wallace of Lonewolf performance does custom grinds. Want a head ported? Steve Menegon has the best reputation of all the guys with dremels and a bench in the garage.

The real "tuners" don't buy parts from japan... they make it in their own garage. Steve Menegon, Jonny Speeva, and Wallace are more "tuner" than the deep-pocketed mouse-clicking honda fanatic up the street will ever be. /rant

But I kinda like JDM hondas. I think Spoon styling is sexy.
