Straight from SEMA:

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Pennsylvania Reintroduces Bill to Ban the Use of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

Legislation (H.B. 1330) that would effectively prohibit the use of exhaust systems other than a "factory-installed muffler” or a “muffler meeting factory specifications" has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives by Representative Michael K. Hanna (Phone:
717/772-2283, Fax: 717/787-4137). The bill has been referred to the
House Transportation Committee.

Contact Rep. Hanna and Members of the Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 1330

· H.B. 1330 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

· H.B. 1330 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance and utility.

· H.B. 1330 would make it nearly impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

· H.B. 1330 perpetuates the erroneous assumption that enthusiasts who equip their vehicles with modified exhaust systems are involved in illegal street racing.

Call or Fax the members of the House Transportation Committee in Harrisburg (See List Below) today to oppose this legislation. This bill
unfairly tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts in Pennsylvania.

I cannot believe this. You can't tell me one of those old dudes on the transportation committee doesn't have a '69 Corvette with lake pipes or a '70 Charger with headers and Flowmasters. This is bull****. I hate the government. Every time they pass a law like this I think about switching my party affiliation to Libertarian :thumbdow:

Agreed.

The only way I'll go back to stock is if the ****in state of PA, NOT THE TAXPAYERS, pay out of it's own pocket to put my exhaust back on. I believe anyone would stand with me on this, because that's a hell of a lot of work and money. I'd estimate a minimum of 500 a car. minimum. That's a LOT of money they probably don't want to spend.

This is just BS. At least the opposition statements are decent.

That would be great because than i could claim a aftermarket exhaust....and use the money for something else lol

The bill is never going to happen. So stop worring. On top of the fact there would be no way to tell who had stock what on their cars.

Tim with newer cars anything is possible...and there is a big defintion to be able to tell a flowmaster from a stock muffler

I somehow doubt some cop is going to pull you over and look under your car to see your mufflers.

Not all cars are quite as lucky to have underbodies.

this is already a law in colorado, where i lived for 4 years... i had a rediculously loud exhaust... and the only time i got pulled over for it was when i was cruising right through ricer central on a friday night where the cops are out in full force trying to contain everyone. i wouldnt worry about it too much...

lol, it will never pass.
For you hicks out there, every county in PA is going to start introducing required emissions during yearly inspections in the next 5-10 years. That has already started happening.

HAHAHA I honestly don't think they care about that either. Anyway I'm not worried about the law at all heh. I doubt it will get passed and its true we won't get pulled over for it just if the cop wants to be a dick if he pulls you over for speeding or acting like a complete full

the aftermarket industry won't let something like this happen. they wom't lose millions of dollars in revenues, there are companies that does only aftermarket exhaust and catbacks.

man I would be pissed if this passes. I just dont have the time or money to start taking stuff off my car and putting it back to stock. F that.

Also, my car is loud as hell. I've never been bothered by police about that.

What about motorcycles? some of those F-in things are louder than any car i've heard. do they apply to this rule?

87camaroPA
04-21-2005, 08:37 AM
Any way your right i have heard Motorcycles way louder than any car's in my area i have heard some that were plane loud. O and what is going to happen to all of the muscle cars out there who just plain don't have exhast's just side pipes?

I was pulled over on the way home from Red Robin a few weeks ago for having a loud exhaust.

I was told that the by the cop that the Bensalem Police are starting to crack down on loud exhausts.

I didn't get a chance to read all the posts. But I have seen concern for such a law elsewhere. Funny thing is, there is no law for having aftermarket exhaust. If there was... Hardly any vehicles out on the street would be legal. Think about it. Anytime you get something fixed exhaustwise - even through the dealer. It's an aftermarket part.

If your reckless with the amount of noise your car makes...then you'll probably get a noise violation, etc.
I just talked to a police officer today, and he sayed theirs no chance of such a law being accepted. He brought out the point that: although your car may bring alot of attention to itself with the exhaust and accesories, he understands that your probably the more responsible driver on the road. And it's the others he needs to be watching.
Now we definatly need more police like him!!!

haha It's all about the stock catback with an electric cutout!

"No officer, That noise must have been a motorcycle....somewhere"

I mean what are the chances that they would know to check for a cutout?

A cop pulled me over for my tint and told me I needed to remove it... I said...

the tint cost me almost $300 dollars... meaning i paid about $18 dollars tax for it... if it's illegal, than you can't tax it... so give me 18 dollars and I'll take it off.... and he replied "whatever, take your chances, you'll eventually get a ticket"

and i plan on the same thing with this exhaust system!
