An American multi-millionaire crashed his Ferrari 250 GTO in central France while on a trip to commemorate the legendary model's 50th anniversary, the India Times reports.

The man, investor Christopher Cox, crashed the GTO, which he bought in 2005 and is estimated to be worth more than $30 million, while taking a spin on the legendary Gueux race course on Friday.

The racetrack jaunt was part of a five-day tour that also included Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason in his 250 GTO.
Only 39 of these Ferraris were ever made and were all built between 1962 and 1964.
To add injury to insult, his wife Ann broke her leg in the accident.

Part of me wants to say awesome he bought a car to drive it, but in reality the man is an idiot. Drive something that doesn't cost 30 million and put some money towards driving lessons.

And kudos to Mr. Cox him for driving the car on the track--that is what the car was designed and built to do. I am surprised he drove it on the street (yes, I think it's far more risky for him to drive on the street than on the track). This car has been wrecked several time before (in racing incidents) and it will surely be rebuilt after this wreck.


3445GT was completed on April 30th in 1962, it was first raced by Sergio Bettoja in the Parma-Poggio Hillclimb to a 3rd in class. Then it was owned by Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata and started in Le Mans (dnf) with Nino Vacarella and Giorgio Scarlatti,Carlo Maria Abate won theTrophée Auvergne in Charade, the GTO had an accident in the Tour de France, finished 22nd OA in the 1000km Montlhery race and 5th OA in the 12h Sebring race, Ulf Norinder became the new owner and raced the GTO in Swedish colors, it finished 6th OA in the Targa Florio with Ludovico Scarlatti and J.M. Bordeu, in 1965 3445GT was rebodied by Drogo - in a non GTO like style, in 1976 it was damaged in accident and rebodied as Series 1 GTO.

Would not want to be the person at fault when damaging a car like that! Very sad to see such a rare and beautiful car wrecked. However, like other have said, the car was designed to be driven. I give them credit for using them like they're meant to be.

i wouldn't want to be either person's insurance company. the person at fault more than likely isnt carrying enough insurance to cover a 30 million $ vehicle. so the owner's insurance company is probably going to have to cover the remaining $29,950,000

As stated above, it will certainly be rebuilt and probably at least as good as new when done...unless it's melted into a glob of molten beer cans.

As for insurance, since this was on a racetrack I suspect there would be liability waivers signed so only the insurance that Cox had on this car would be on the line for coverage.

I couldn't find any either.. I'd really like to see the extent of the damage though. Plus, as stated before, it'll be fixed. If you can afford 30 million for a car... you can afford to fix it.

And I thought it was a shame when I saw a C5 vette and more recently a '11 M coupe hop a curb at the autoX, chicken feed compared to.
