So with the Gas prices the way they are now and where they will be in a few months, are you ready/looking for a different way of transportation? I was thinking of getting a scooter for the around the neighborhood and maybe to and from work. what about you guys? doing much driving?

I'm going to get a second job to pay for gas.
I was going to get another 'toy' when I graduate college .. Now I'm prolly gonna buy something that gets better gas mileage, has more cargo space, and has more than two doors. Bleh.
But really, I don't mind. As long as I have at least one fun car in my possession that I can romp on every now and then, I can deal with driving something more intelligent on a daily basis.

well i want a horse and buggy so can have 2horsepower instead of just 1hp
Sticking with NA... not that I was a big fan of boost to begin with.

I'm just going to try and do more business at work, regardless of the price of gas. My car already gets 30+ so I could really care less, even if it goes up to 5 a gallon, I fill up once a week, an extra $20 a week is not going to make or break my bank account.

def not changing, i only fill my car up once every two weeks(helps i have a company vehicle to drive everyday to work) Im still debating on a evo x or a new mustang gt as my new daily so i can get back to building my current evo. And as far as my truck goes i only drive that when i need to haul things otherwise it stays parked... i think i put maybe 2k on it last year lol

For the amount ppl will spend on a street bike to daily commute, Or another ''gas friendly'' car + gas and insurance on top of either or, They can easily just spend that money on the extra fuel prices over the next few years...... I never did understand why people do that.
If you have a modified car, You need to ''pay to play'', And fuel is just one of those costs. Buy race fuel for awhile, At $2x.xx a gallon, Then go buy 93 octane and you'll never think twice about paying for premium fuel at the pump. It's better to not even look at the price of fuel, Rather so just pay for it being you need it anyways.

I just filled up 10 gallons of fuel today and it cost me $40...thats a little more than half of what my car can take. But you have to treat it as a necessity or else your not getting anywhere. Its only gonna get worse. There is no need to overprice gas either

thats too bad.
i have two 13sec turbo cars that get over 30mpg so i dont really care.
My 13-second turbo 200sx gets 38mpg when I turn down the boost, though that's not what I was thinking about at the time. Putting aside my fantasies of boosting an NA engine until gas costs are much less significant in my budget (currently takes up 20% of my income). To be honest, introducing forced induction was always a bit out of my reach anyway.

Yup, those guys who are running 100+ octane really feel it, and the VP fuels are even worse. $25 a gallon, hooooly crap.
This is why I went E85. Slightly higher upfront cost, but in the long run it all works out.

Yall are lucky my truck maybe gets 8-10mpg, 39 gallon tank, and only 300-400 miles per tank. It takes right now around $140 to fill my truck from completely empty and I do drive alot. My change is to slow down on driving and hopefully get a raukus or a cheap street bike this spring unless I find a new job since I just got f'd over by my current one then Ill get my 02 z06 like I was planning on doing.

I can see selling a car to get a different one for better milage and what not. I don't get when people buy a second car for better milage:screwy:
I was actually just talking to someone today about this. He wanted to buy a car for better milage. So I asked him why he would want to BUY a car? If you can afford a second car I say go for it, but why would you buy a second car just to save money on gas. I think some people don't think of the fact that with the money you spend on the car the gas money you save won't match for a long time
Sublime1304

I'm going to spend $15,000 in mods to get +10 mpg.
I hear if I get a big ass turbo that doesn't begin to spool until 5500 RPM I can get 30+mpg if I stay under boost!

Not exactly a "solution", but I purchased a cheap electric scooter last year. It works pretty well...top speed: 25mph...range(w/my 265lb ass) 6-10mi. It also folds up and fits neatly in the back of the Avant. Of coarse, they're illegal for use on public roads and sidewalks in PA. My weekly fuel costs are currently @ $70-80. When they climb over $100/week, I might entertain the possibility of using the scooter to shorten my daily commute and take my chances w/the authorities.

yeah theres nothing you can do, all my friends do is talk about bikes for the summer but whats the point unless you already have one, even then people dont buy bikes just to get good gas mileage 1/3 of the year. I will probably drive less aggressive, i only fill up once a week around 40-50 bucks. Yeah just avoid driving aggresssivly, driving when its not needed, etc. I didnt buy the car for the mpgs.

A large part of my driving is either tax deductile or can be reimbursed by work through expense reports. At this point, I don't have any plans to change. However I may use gas prices as an excuse to get underdrive pulleys and a lightweight aluminum driveshaft.

I'll be running the Baja on its lowest boost/timing map & trying to stay under 70mph.
I can get 350 miles out of the 16.9 gallon tank when I stick to it.
(Of course that's running on fumes to the pump, which isn't the best idea )

Guys looking into bikes aren't thinking about all the gear they need either. A good helmet alone isn't cheap, plus the jacket, boots, pants, gloves, etc.

anybody with a short (less than 10 mile) commute ever though of getting a bicycle? A used one in working condition goes for $500 or less on cl. And thats it. No other costs. And it's great for the environment and healthy and you save a ton of money on gas.
you really cant lose.

I don't think they realize it doesn't really matter though...
Even if it were 25 cents more per gallon,
10 gallons would be (Just say) - $35 @ $3.50/gal.
10 gallons would be (@ 3.75) - $37.50
The savings really isn't as much as people think it is, And that's going as far as saying it's a .25 cent increase from station to station. I guess it's because I never understood why people bitch about gas prices. If you don't like it, Sell your car and find a new way to commute. Bitching about it doesn't do anything to help them.
