Question about 3G and signal strength?

I currently have Tmobile (yeah yeah, I know) and im having trouble getting good signal at my house. Someone had mentioned to me that if I upgrade to a 3G phone, my signal strength would most likely improve as 3G is able to broadcast for a longer range and is better at penetrating walls.

So I guess my question is... do you guys get better signal strength and fewer dropped calls over 3G over older GSM networks?

PS. PLEASE DONT TELL ME TO CHANGE MY CARRIER!!! I plan to ditch them in a few months when my contract is up, but until that time comes Im thinking of getting a 3G phone.

Sometimes a new SIM card will help with reception issues, lol

I have T-Mobile too and it seems I have had better reception since I upgraded to a 3G

3G signal is by far better than non-3G signal. But if Im not mistaken, even if you have a 3G phone, you still might see a fluctuation in signal between 3G and regular service, depending on where you are.

But to answer your question, yes, upgrading to a 3G phone will help your problems greatly.

Its a basic Nokia Xpressmusic. Doubt there are any hacks for it.

Upgrade to a newer phone and you will get better service. And may I suggest switching to a different carrier Almost all of my friends that have Tmobile have nothing but complaints about service. Dont worry about 4G stuff. Sprint is gonna be the first company to release a 4G phone for their new 4G network. And thats not till next month

If you're actually planning on switching services within the next couple months, why would you get a new phone now that won't work when you switch (unless the phone you're considering getting would work on more than 1 network...I'm not sure how that works)?

Blackberry 9700 and I LOVE it.

If you decide to stay on board with T-Mobile and upgrade/extend your contract, they will let you buy the phones at the normal 2 year agreement price (which is hundreds less than retail) and you can buy it in installments through EIP. Oh, and if you don't find that you have better reception within 14 days, you can return the phone and continue on with switching carriers.

If you are on a 2 year contract, they will let you upgrade in the 21st month, just FYI. I upgraded a few months early.

I have a good 7 months left in my contract on a family plan. If I ditch them today, I owe them about 400 for the two phones that I got for free on my family plan.

The idea is to get a used 3g phone for about 100bucks that will tie me over for the time being. Then switch over to verizon or continue my service depending on how much of a difference the 3g phone makes.

Got ya. That makes sense. When I read that I assumed your contract was up much sooner than 7 months from now.
