I lie to a certain extent. depends on the situation. majority of the time i lie at work to our customers by giving them vauge answers. pretty much telling them what they want to hear but at the same time still covering my ass. eh its hard to explain.

I say a time where it's "okay" to lie to someone is when the benefit of them knowing the truth is far, far surpassed by the pain it will cause them.

And no, that doesn't mean when you tell your friend they don't look fat in a particular outfit when you really want to tell them it makes them look like a beached whale.

I mean if your mother is on her death bed and asks you if she looks horrible - I think it'd be okay at this point to say, "No mom, you look beautiful," even if she's lost all her teeth, half of her skin is necrotic and her nose has fallen off.

Otherwise, I don't see a reason for it.

I only lie under extreem circumstances. I only did it really when I was working at Advance Auto, when a customer asked if the cheaper item was good, and as usual, I said yes.

I try to be truthful as much as possible, but sometimes I'll get myself stuck in a lie here and there, my intentions are never to hurt anyone. But, I don't think it's good to lie, especially to someone that you care about.

x2. Or I find myself leaving out info that isn't pertinent.

At work I lie all the time to keep the customers quiet.

Not sure if this was directed at me, but I never said I never lie. I just don't see the point of it. Sometimes I don't even do it on purpose, it just comes out. Like when my mom said to me, "How was school?" and even though I didn't go, I said "It was alright," without even thinking.

I've lied, about big or small things.. but I have a guilty conscience and ended up telling the people that I lied. Sometimes lying gets so complicated, though.

I always lied when I had the Honda. That's only cause i didn't need it stolen. It's not right to lie but it was necessary?

My post was a general statement, not directed to any one person... but to everyone that says/believes they do not lie or do so only under extreme circumstances.

We, humans, lie everyday... its a protection mechanism. It keeps us and ours safe.

For instance, I keep my job safe by not telling a handful of chicks in the office that I would like to bust a nut on their face i'd say I'm lying to them by not being honest with them about my feelings

This is true perception of lying and it's context is different to everyone.

I put I could never lie.

I'm a terrible liar so it doesn't happen much, but I do it when I have to. I tell people whether it's my friends, a girl I like, whatever. If you have something to say just say it. I'd rather know sooner than later because I'm a rational guy. I won't jump to conclusions or judge you. But if I find out elsewhere, confront you, you lie, and then later tell me the truth.... no sympathy from me. With that said I give the same respect back to others.... If that makes sense. I think that being as honest as possible most of the time keeps drama down.

If by lying you are saying that I have no problem whatsoever looking right into someones eyes and being 100% dishonest with them, yeah I'm really good at that. But then again, I work retail so it's a part of the job.

Between friends and family nothing more than a white lie if I can help it.

ditto.... little white lies are OK in this case. However, there is rarely any good that can come from lying in any other case. If you are always honest then you don't have to worry about contradicting yourself in the future. I've known some pathological liars in my lifetime, and I must say that it is one of most annoying traits a person could possess.
