You can find a decent bike for less than $1000 these days with CL, and usually turn it over for as much as you bought it for. Call around for insurance, I bundled mine in with my regular insurance on my car and paid like 250 a year.

i just picked up an R6 and im only paying 275 a year with only liability (obviously though i have medical and everything else set high) but then again im closing in on 30 so its going to be cheaper for me.
IMO i would say not to start out on a 250 because while it is a good beginner bike, you grow out of it fast.

that's horrible advice. 99% of the time a 250 can be resold for as much or more than what it was purchased for. Although you grow out of it quickly, it's a stepping stone none the less. Last edited by Ds650rida; 03-13-2012 at 01:19 AM. |

maybe im a little confused, where did i mention anything about resale of the bike? also thanks for confirming my "horrible advice" about growing out of it quickly.

I work for Harley and still think that most of them are junk. Ridiculous pricing for piss-poor horsepower from an antiquated design, coupled with self destructive tendencies from "lugging" (and I use that term loosely and with the utmost sarcasm).
Literally, unless you're buying a touring bike, and even then, you're just burning money on a Harley. The SV650 might be a bitch bike, but it's got great balance and half-decent performance for its' size. Plus, they're easily flippable for nearly as much as you paid for them as they seem to be a great started bike for track days.

The VRod is the best thing that Harley has attempted since they teamed up with Eric Buell. Excellent engineering, great balance, gobs of power, looks great, and look what they did when they finally put out a decent water-cooled bike!

SV650 is an excellent starter bike. The 250 is a bit outdated and too slow for anybody who's used to a fast car and you *will* grow out of it. I'm not bored on my SV650 on the street and I've ridden some fast bikes (rode a literbike daily for 2 years).
