Well to clear it up a little but you can run a BOV that recircs just like stock or you can vent to atmosphere...

Honestly if the car is MAF then recirc is probably the best method...you could also change to a blow through MAF or run a dual setup with a BPV and a BOV...

On a subaru, unless you are getting tuned for it, I really don't think it is a good idea to have a vent to atmosphere BOV. You can get an aftermarket BOV and it will support higher boost than stock, but you should recirc unless you are getting a tune for it.

You can get a full recirc or a partial recirc and it shouldn't be a problem. If you get one that vents to the atmosphere, you will have issues with your idle, stalling when returning to idle and loss of power.

pros:
-sound (if you like it)
-bling under the hood (if you like it)
-possibly can hold more boost than stock (but sometimes they're worse, and stock can hold 20+ psi)
wait a sec, there arent any clear pros... hmm.

cons:
-if it vents to atmosphere it throws your AFR every time it vents and confuses your car
-a lot of aftermarket bovs are not adjusted properly... they either leak or they surge, some are adjustable though and some are just good out of the box
-power/dollar ratio is... well, its 0.

the guys who should go to aftermarket BOVs are the ones running high boost that the stock bpv cant handle, or when they go to a standalone which wont be adversely affected by venting to atmosphere, or a front mount that doesn't work with the stock bov. mostly bov owners are the guys who want to draw attention to themselves.

this is just my opinion of course, and to each his own. hope that helps though...

just to add a few things

the car will run very rich for a split second with a vent to air system, so if you're running a straight exhaust, you can spit out flames... making a con a pro

it really depends on the car and how well, or poorly, the stock unit operates. Some cars can have ****ty stock units that will leak so there can be a performance gain when upgrading to an aftermarket unit. the recirculation system is the way to go but most of us are vain so we like the venting noise.

good points... i thought about bring up the flames thing, which i agree is a pro
and the other point is good too... i know WRX and STi stock BPVs are pretty damn good, but some DSM stock BPVs blow chunks, so it depends on what you're working with to start.

yeah i found out the hard way and have just realised my problem recently when u shift (like troll said) it throws your afr's and it also makes your injectors spray unevenly on your cylinder wall (uneven feul wash) thus causing unnecessary bull ish oh yeah and wrx stock bpv's are good for roughly 24 pounds and stock sti bpv's are good for about 30

Say bye bye to your pre-cat, turbo, and cat if you run a full vent on a stock ecu.
