The 2011+ are apparently significantly better with track times matching/exceeding the M3, but I think that is out of our price range. However, we may just pick up an IS350... 306hp is plenty for her lol

I found a video of the new BRZ around Thunderbolt.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxAkN...eature=related

This guy is much faster than both of us. So I think he cheated with the making of the video. haha. He had to have some kind of software to speed up the video.

I compared the videos side by side playing at the same time. In the straightaway where we reached 105-110mph, this guy accelerates much much faster than us. He claims it is stock except for taking out passenger front seat and installing race tires. The G35 coupe and Boxster definitely accelerate faster than the new BRZ and FRS, especially at higher speeds. Or maybe he lied about engine being stock.

The last turn before the straight, I'm about at 80-85. I do lift, I'm still a little chicken hahaha. maybe not next time.

Can't see the video at work, but will check out when I get home. That car prob corners harder than my car...

I had to lift at that turn, but I was probably going the same speed as you. The Audi R8 in front of me went slow on purpose to leave room between him and the guy in front of him so that he can accelerate and go as fast as he wants in the straight without illegally passing. It was annoying because I always had to slow down for him.

The guy driving the FRS in the video is a very experienced driver, and actually drives Element Tuning's record breakign STI. Don't kill yourself trying to compare skill levels. The FR-S he's driving was completely stock; I talked to him the session after their STI broke.

But accelerating from 80-105mph has nothing to do with skill. You just push the gas pedal down and drive in straight line. With many sports cars, there is no shifting required within those speeds. His straight line speed should be less on the straightaway even if he exited the corner and entered the straightaway at a higher speed.

Maybe I'm just confused about what you're saying. Buts lets disregard the acceleration piece for now. Exiting the corner faster (higher speed) will play into the overall speed you carry down the straight. If you exit at 80 vs. 70, the top speed by the next braking point will be higher. Whether his car gets from 80-100 faster than yours gets is a question of power, and in that manner, you are right.

Sorry if I sound like I'm questioning your skill or anything. I'm in no way trying to debate someone's abilities.

No its fine. I am not skilled. That was my first track day and this guy is wayy more skilled and experienced than me. I still think though if he exited the turn at 80 and I at 70mph, I should have made up the 10mph difference in that ~ 1/4 mile straightaway. He did brake much later than me. I took that into account.

Physics. Think about distance allowable for acceleration also. Even if you had disregarded the late braking, he had a head start on you of 10mph over the same distance.

Pretty cool time for that BRZ at about 1:40. It shows me how significant the "driver mod" can be.

My buddy Scott (he sometimes posts here as 2MCHPWR) just took second in a street class (on Hoosier A6's) time trial in his Z06 at about 1:32 to 1:33.

True. I shaved at least 33 seconds off my first lap time after about 10 laps. The instructor made me so much faster in such a short amount of time. But from watching my video's, I still see so much room for improvement. I think I can eventually take off another 15 + seconds with more practice.

I think I am trying out the Philly SCCA autocross this weekend. Saturday in Warminster Community Park where the 2012 TST Spring Meet was held, Sunday at Wells Fargo Center.

Pocono was great, definitely tested the car's high speed handling and braking. I prefer Thunderbolt over it. I got another great instructor. Also, I got signed off to move up to HPDE 2! Woot woot! I'm going to Watkins next at the end of Sept.
