look out philly, the escort will get you

Not mine but last week marked the day of my friend's turbo escort. We swapped the 1.8 BPT GTX jspec motor into his EGT hatch along with a handful of other goodies.

Unfort., he blew the head gasket (which is the better of any of the evils that could have happened) and it's almost done in the shop. Originally we opted for the American BP N/A head because it flows better. Instead we are putting the original head on for now, having the NA head ported and built up a bit, then swapping heads again.

This was a great learning experience doing a full motor swap and upgrading the clutch/flywheel + all the other crap. Decent sized FMIC and all sorts of things I've never had a hands on experience with.

He doesn't race so if you notice a loud ass BOV, don't try. With a kid, a wife, and a new house it's not his style. Just don't try cutting him off thinking you're faster.

Anyway, as the car sits, (stock body I might add. Only addition is visible exhaust and a 1.8inch drop), we are pretty comfortable guessing it will run a mid/low 13 second 1/4. Somewhere around 13.6-13.4 on 7psi. Boost is up a bit from mods so the projected numbers on street tires is 13.1-12.9 @ 10psi. And it's been done out in Oregon already by a buddy of our's who has a video of him running a 12.8 on street tires at 11psi w/ 3inch exhaust and DP while making a brand new evo8 look like its standing still.

I ended up with his stock motor. Now I can finally get to work since the head on his motor is off my spare one. I've had a set of Corksport cams sitting in my shed since forever. I'm hoping with some mild head work + cams + current mods and advanced timing I can pull a mid to low 14 going N/A. Wish me luck!
