Inspection Stickers

I got pulled over today and issued a citation.

Vehicle Code Section 4703 sub section (a).
-Operating a vehicle with an expired inspection.

This is the tag on my car.

Is that not for September 2010?

---------------
Back story:

I've had problems getting my car inspected before because of exhaust leaks. The last sticker was for October 08. It didn't pass until March 09. They put the sticker shown above on my car.

For the next inspection, I took my car to a shop in March 2010 because I thought it ran out October 2009 (yeah, a little late). The shop told me my car was current and didn't need inspected. I figured he knew what he was talking about so I took his word for it.

Yesterday a cop was sitting in the turning lane ready to turn when I rolled past. He pulls a u-turn and pulls me over. He tells me that my inspection has been out since October 2009. I tell him what the shop told me but he wouldn't listen or help me out at all. All he kept saying was that I needed a receipt from the shop showing that they inspected it.

Why would he expect me to have a receipt from a shop that didn't preform any inspection? He told me to call the Magistrate if I had any problems. He really wasn't a pleasant person to deal with.

Any how, I have an inspection scheduled for Monday. I actually have had it scheduled for the last 2 weeks. I figured I'd get it done early for once. Go figure.

Is there anything I could present to the District Magistrate that would make her throw this out or at least decrease the offense? I really don't have $109.50 for this. As of right now, the only "proof" I have of that incident at the shop was me posting about it on another car forum.

But I really can't see that holding any weight in court.
