RIP Lyndzi
Anyway the past two weeks my car has gotten hit 3 times by three different people....needless to say my car is a wreck and I hope to be moving on to a 2nd Gen Supra Turbo. I just feel like the car is a target for people to hit it...If I end up keeping it, in a month it will have a mugen front and rear lip with the oem fogs, CTR Headlights, CTR Grill and lowered on Skunk2's.....I will post up pictures after the project is complete... Its a shame....one day I wanted this to go on it....

Sorry to hear about this Steve.
2nd gen Supra Turbo??? They didn't come with a turbo.... This sounds interesting. Do you have any other info on this thing. Is this a purpose built single digit drag car?

I have a 2nd gen supra, and yes they did come stock with a snail.
With a properly built motor, and supporting mods, they can make 4 digit hp at the crank. My setup should, and will eclipse 650 at the wheels all boost, and with no2, could realistically break 7 or even 750 at the wheels, not bad for a 3100 lb car with 3 liters. |

2nd gen Supras are 82-86 model year. My father had an 85. I know they didn't come with a turbo from the factory... at least in the US cause I was with my dad when he bought it brand new from a Toyota dealership.
They came with a 5M-GE motor that was a V6 and very different than the headgasket blowing MK3 (86.5-92) inline 6, 7M-GE and 7M-GTE (turblow motor). The MK3 motor eventually evolved into the bulletproof JZA8 and JZA80 motor in the infamously mod friendly MK4. http://www.celicasupra.com/othercodes.htm I use to have an MK3 myself shortly after I bought my 3rd DSM. The MK3 eventually got traded in for my 4th DSM.

Well, I will tell you what I do know, not what I think. The pre 83 car u are talking about is a mark 1 celica, then cane the 83 to 85 mark 2, which was the gen 1 supra, often refered to as a celica supra. In 1986, the mark3, or 2nd gen supra, or A70 chassis became avail. It was not untill 1987 that a turbocharged version of the 7mge was avail. This was the next in line of the long living M series engines by toyota, all of which were inline 6 cyl motors. In 1993, the 3rd gen supra, mark 4, or A80 chassis became available. If you would like me to trace the line of evolution of the supra motors, that's fine. The 2jz did NOT evolve from a M series motor. The 5mge was avail pre 1987. This was then folowed by a 7mge. The main differences in the 5m and 7m were the stroke, the 7m had an increased stroke to 91mm. (A high rev mod used my some tuners is to directly swap in a low stroke 5m motor into a 7m motor, for lower piston speed) the 7mge evolved into a lower compression version with oil squirters. Then somewhere in 89, the 78m crank counterweights were changed, and the stock revlimiter was lower. Around this time. A 2.5 liter version of the 2jz was avail overseas with twin turbos, and was avail in the mark 3, A70, or also refered to as 2nd gen supra. By 93, toyota had restroked the 1jz to 3 liters, thus creating the 2jz. The only thing I can possibly imagine you were refering to wgen referencing the evolution of the 7m into the 2j was the similarity of the 5m evolution to the 7m, and the 1jz evolution into the 2j. Food for thought, a 2j and 7m have very different head designs, completly different bore to stroke ratios. More food for thought..... The 7m only blows head gaskets for 2 reasons, overheated warped heads, and stretched head bolts that need to be replaced or kept tight. But what do I know, I've only been building supras for the last 7 years, and have one of the highest hp 7mgtes in north america? |
