A reminder...always try to work on your own car

After some struggles with my car, I decided to change the fuel filter to start. Didn't de-pressurize the system right, got gas in my eye when I popped the line off and decided to take it to a shop so I don't lose an eye over it.

Drop the car off at 10am, watch the mechanic pull away in it. I told him what the problem was and how to replicate it, as I hear him pulling away, he clearly didn't understand that I said to get on it in 2nd and take it to redline where the car starts to backfire. I leave.

Drop my dad off at the hospital for his surgery, and decide to swing by on the way home to see if any progress was made, but my car is still not back (it's already 11:15). Hang around for a few minutes and see my car pull in, mechanic gets out with a box of parts for some other work (sweet, my car was used as a runner). I leave.

Call back at 2:30 "hey i gotta get to school tomorrow, have you started to work on my car?"...."nah well start on it soon"

Decide at 4:30 to **** it and walk to the shop, my car is in the same spot as it was when I saw it at 11:15 so I ask them for the keys and leave.

Lesson learned, don't let someone else work on your car (in this case not work on it). I had the whole day free and instead of the car being in front of my house where I could have done something, it stood outside of their shop as they did nothing.

I won't say where I took it. The shop owner is a good guy, when he sees me working on my car and he's coming home, he stops and gives me tips and asks if I need any help, I just don't want to waste time.

K, I was gonna say, there is a shop around the corner from you and I know Alex very well there. I think he used to live in the same area that you do. He's a great guy and does very well with many different types of cars, mostly foreign. I thought you might know him as he is Russian too and lives/works so close to you.
o well, see you in about 45min.

Not all shops are bad like that, but do you know how many cars he had ahead of you before you came in? Sometimes there are those things you can't figure out and someone else can.

So your complaining that you dropped your car off at lunch, and he didn't start working on it right away. The world doesn't revolve arround you.

I don't see the mechanic doing anything wrong other than using your car for errands.

Why not pick up some parts from the local store while on the test drive. Makes no sense to test it, then bring it back just to get your own car and come back again. People wants their car fix fast don't they.

But at the same time, if def isn't OK to joyride a customer car.

I see why the mechanic did it but doesn't make it right.

You're not his only customer.
We're either missing something, or you're being incredibly unreasonable.
You didn't say anything about whether you had an appt., if he said he'd be able to get started on it right away, if he said it would be done by the end of the day, etc.

I'd still be pissed if some one took my car on an hour drive just to get parts... Really pissed.

I came there the night before and told him I'd be dropping it off in the AM. Dropped it off at 10, came at 11:15 and the shop was like a ghost town, there was nothing stopping them from doing the filter which is a 15 minute job if you know what you're doing. I just don't like my car being 19th priority especially since it was such a simple and quick job I asked them to do. I may be being a bit quick to jump the gun, I'm just pissed because of the reasons I mentioned. This isn't the first time it's happened either, a friend took his car there to have springs installed (we already pulled the assemblies too) they said 2 hours, took them close to 5. I'm not so much pissed that they used my car as a runner, he's my neighbor and I trust him with my car, it's just that that time could have been used to work on it since the shop was dead anyway.

Reasons like these are why I always try to work on my own ****, in this case with friends cause I had no idea how to do the filter but my dad was bitching and had surgery coming up so I didn't wanna stress him out and agreed to take it in.

If it's a fifteen minute job, couldn't you have taken your dad to surgery in whatever the other car is you drove him with, and then worked on it today?

It takes more then 15 minutes to typically take a car to a shop and drop it off. Should of fixed it yourself if its that easy rather then complaining.
