thinking about purchasing coilovers....

looking to buy a set of coilovers for my ride and i'm leaning to the experts on EVO's. Now keep in mind, I don't need the BEST or TOP of the line ones. something that will ride nice, but yet, not expensive. some opinions please...

Get tien s-techs and call it a day. You drive your car to get from point A to B, you don't need some high end coilover, unless that's what you want.

In the event of you wanting something really sick,

Go Zeal or Cusco.

Ive got Zeals, and they're really nice. Work out great for tooling around town as well as autocrossing.

I would never recommend Tein.

Do you want them just to lower your car or are you interested in really improving it's performance? Tein Basics (http://www.201motorsports.com/produc...roducts_id=653) are one of the cheaper coilovers on the market and carry the Tein name, but I can't say anything positive or negative about them. The problem with just springs is you're not making that much of an improvement in handling, but they ARE $600 cheaper than the coilovers.

I recommend geting a set of Basics. You won't blow your stock struts and for full coilovers they're not too badly priced. I'm sure if you contact 201 Motorsports you can get them for a little cheaper too.

You could also look into some Bilstein PSS9's, as they're adjustable and can actually be very comfortable on the street. I know someone running them who is very happy. 201 can also get them for you for a good price.

If you plan on getting lowering springs, you will need to replace the struts within a year. It’s a quick fix – I wouldn’t recommend it. The struts will be shot in no time.

Maybe Tein coilovers aren’t the way to go for STis but they were a good buy for me. I researched for awhile before installing them. I don’t think the pillow ball mount is necessary unless you’re really going to hit the track. (I considered the pillow ball but I think the ride would be stiffer.) I have it set for “soft” while in the city and it’s relatively easy to live with.

Some people consider suspension mods more important than power – I would have to agree. You have a new confidence level that you wouldn’t get from adding power first. Driving feel was much better than my friend’s MR – we test drove and compared both. As long as you get a reputable brand you’ll be satisfied with the results.

Don't forget to think about rebuild time and cost when they do go. It's something to look into
