TST's Coverage of The 5th Annual Sonic Meet, benefiting Make-A-Wish

The 5th Annual Sonic Meet, benefiting Make-A-Wish
May 1st, 2011

Photos by Steven Cole, Scott Lam, and Eric Harris

Roughly 2,000 cars rolled into the Sonic Drive-In in Morgantown, PA on the morning of May 1st, 2011 for the much anticipated 5th Annual Sonic Meet, benefiting Make-A-Wish.
The annual charity event, presented by TriStateTuners.com, has shown huge growth each year, with the latest being by far the largest and most successful event ever. Not only did the number of cars double from last year, but the amount of money raised also doubled, totaling $10,000 raised to be donated directly to Make-A-Wish!

As a very special bonus to this year’s meet, Make-A-Wish matched us up with a local 5-year-old girl named Tia who has Cystic Fibrosis. Tia and her family were able to come to The Sonic Meet to experience the event in person and meet some of the local car community that came together for this great event. After the meet, Tia and her family were able to fulfill her wish of taking a trip to Disney World where she had breakfast with all of her favorite Disney princesses as well as many other very memorable experiences.

This year’s meet hosted over a dozen sponsors on site displaying everything from VAC Motorsports’s World Challenge E46 BMW touring car to PSI PROformance’s 8-second Honda Civic drag car. The Tjin Edition Roadshow was also in attendance with their 2011 Ford Mustang GT and 2011 Ford Fiesta. Rockstar Energy Drink returned for the second year in a row to hand out samples to the thirsty crowd as they browsed the other sponsor booths including Ultra Racing, R&B Car Customs, Miller Performance Group, Advert Graphix, Carlisle Performance & Style, and J. Calabretti Insurance.

VIP reserved parking was available for the first time at this year’s meet for a $25 donation which ensured a great parking spot as well as a strip of raffle tickets, and was incredibly successful with 100 cars participating.

Also new at this year’s meet were Sonic Meet event t-shirts, designed by TST member “rodder”, which came out great and were a hit with everyone. Over 100 shirts were sold in total, making for a great souvenir and a great addition to the fundraising efforts.

There were two dozen raffle prizes available at the meet from donors like Alphasonik, New Jersey Motorsports Park, JM Fabrications, Shades of Gray Window Tinting, R/T Tuning, JSC Speed, and many more. The raffle prizes, as always, were very popular with the crowd and made for many very happy winners.

Sonic Drive-In donated 10% of sales during the meet to the fundraising efforts, and TriStateTuners.com donated 25% of all merchandise sales at the meet. Make-A-Wish was also on site with a donation jar that contributed to the total amount raised.

The 5th Annual Sonic Meet was an overwhelming success with an insane number of cars that came out and an amazing amount of money raised. With $10,000 raised, we will likely be able to grant a second and possibly a third wish!

We would like to give a huge thanks to all of our sponsors and donors as well as everyone who contributed to one of the largest and most anticipated annual events on the east coast each spring. With the growth this event has shown each year, we can’t wait to see what next year’s meet has in store!

Wow, what an awesome turnout and an awesome thing to be able to do. I had so much fun. I'm so glad the funds went to a young girl w/ CF. Raising money for CF has been my passion for the last 10 years and hopefully you guys will all come to Dublin on Sept 11th to support the 10th annual CF Benefit Car Show.
