Nice cat! Fiancee and I just got kittens last Saturday. First the lady told us they were brothers, but then she said they found 9 kittens (2 litters) in a hoarders house in Horsham and the 2 were bonded. One is noticably bigger than the other, and looks a little older. The little guy has a short tail too. They were worrying me the first few days we had them because they were not really eating or being active, but after getting used to our house, they are really getting to be themselves, jumping all over my dining chairs, couch, bed, etc. They are just domestic short hair tabbys, so nothing exotic, but they have great personalities and love belly rubs . She said they are about 3 months old, so I am guessing Geno (darker one) is 3 and Louie (lighter one) is 4. They eat, sleep, and usually play together. We got 2 so they could have each other and have more fun, plus it's fun watching Louie try new things and seeing Geno do them the next day, learning from each other.

Got one Wednesday. Sadly she has ring worm but we're treating it with oral meds and topical ointments. We've had her quarantined to basically one room sadly after discovery and it makes my wife and I so sad to do it but she's healing really well. She's taken to us like we've raised her since birth and she's only 7 months.

The thought process was that they will keep each other occupied while we are away. Yes it works, but also Gino (little guy) learn from Louie (big guy) and it's not the stuff I want them doing like climbing on our dining table, jumping onto the kitchen counter and going into the sink, etc.

So one of our kittens is very playful and lap friendly. The other is not, usually if you pet him a few times, he will walk a few feet away and sit down. I read online that maybe he's too used to playing "attack the hand" and it said not to use your hands as their toys. Then again, we play with both the same way and only one has a problem. Other times you pet him and he loves it, usually when he's falling asleep or just waking up, the other takes being petted almost anytime. He doesn't attack when you pet him, but just calmly gets up and walks away as if to say "not now please"
Any advice for making our little guy more lap friendly? I've tried sitting on the couch and putting some treats in my hand and making him come up for them, and while he eats I pet him lightly. Not sure what else to do. They play together, sleep together, but usually when the friendly one goes up on our lap, little guy will just sleep alone on the floor or somewhere else. I know cats will have different personalities, but want to see if there's anything we can do. They're about 3-5 months old, the lap friendly one is about a month older than the lonely kitty. We got both together since they were bonded, but they are starting to show differences. Together, they play really well and keep each other occupied.

Whip is rarely a lap cat while Mir will sit with me everyday. I think its just they way they are. Keep in mind yours are still young so it can change.
On a sad note.. Whip out of the blue attacked my friends daughter. Cats are going back to Julie for good. This sucks so much. Last edited by jpalamar; 06-01-2015 at 09:22 PM. |
