I love my T3i! I've noticed it is a lot better than my previous Nikon but then again this was a step up anyways. The screen resolution on this is great and at first I was hesitant about buying a Canon only because the Nikon seemed easier to use but I got used to it and now honestly, I don't think ill switch brands again. I highly recommend it. I ended up going with the upgraded 18-135mm lens which is very nice, I don't think I would go back to an 18-55mm.

Thanks for the info! I've only heard great things about the T3i. My sister has a high end Nikon, and I prefer the Canon's as well personally. I may stick with the 18-55mm at first so I can afford this right off the back, as this lens will probably end up being used the most: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/p..._f_2_8_fisheye

nice - the 15mm fisheye is not terribly fishy on a crop body though so keep that in mind. You might be better suited with one of the other fisheyes liek the sigma 8mm.

Yep, but not a "fisheye". If he wants that fisheye look he'll need to look at aps-c fishies.

Thanks for the responses. I don't want to muddy up this thread too much, however, I want to get a good opinion about this stuff before I spend some serious cash. Would it be worth it to just spend the extra money and pick up a Canon 7d? That's sort of what I am leaning towards. I don't really ever want to upgrade again. Would the EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye act as more of a fish eye on that body? Thanks.

Nope - 7D is still a 1.6x crop camera. The 15mm fisheye is designed primarily as an EF mount fisheye lens. You'd be better off grabbing this cheap Rokinon fisheye:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ide_Angle.html

Its manual focus but a fisheye focal length has a very, very deep depth of field so you almost don't have to focus. $289 too.

Just picked up a 50mm 1.8 lens for the Canon today. So far I really like it. Add that to the list

^ I love mine! On the crop, it's a 136 so it makes for a perfect long portrait lens. It was 100% sharp from the start on the T2i, and no MA required when I switched to the 50D. It focuses fast an accurate every time. I love that it's cheap too so there's no need to worry about it as much as you'd have to if it had a red ring around the front. The only issue is the purple CA wide open (the watch in the pic below). Easy to fix, but annoying nonetheless.

A random pic taken with the T2i + 85 1.8:

Yeah it does show CA when in high contrast situations but that I can deal with for <$400. She liked using my 85 1.2 on vacation but admitted its too unwieldy and I agree.

I have a nikon D3000....It has some cheapo wanna be fish eye and telephoto lens...

Now i would LOVE having just a decent ALL AROUND lens. Something for up close portraits and then some minor zoom stuff. Then for a fish eye i want something big. Not real expensive...im setting a limit of 900$ for both used/new which ever

This was taken with the original lens it came with...I just want more options. This was taken by my fiance btw, people are my daughter...and my sister and her bf

Look at the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. I love mine. It's nice and wide and zooms to 50mm, which on your body is the same as the pics of the green car above this. It's fast for a zoom too, fixed at f/2.8 no matter what focal length you're at. Get a Canon body and I'll sell you mine for cheap. lol. I love it, but I'm changing things up a bit.

Taken w/ 5DMKII/50L (and a 580EXII + Orbis Ring Flash) which is now my main go to.

Not sure if I'm keeping all these lenses. I may consolidate a bit. I love the 30/1.4 vignettes on the 5D full frame but I might nix that and the 85.

Forgot these.....

Pardon the crap pic.. my Induro CF Tripod / 5-way Panhead:
