The G9 is the better camera, but for that price you can almost get a DSLR

You can get a d40 for around 400-500$. Also, you can find a very nice used dSLR for that price on some of the photo forums. If you want a point and shoot though, and think the SLR is out of your range, then go for it. Ive played around with the g9 and its seems pretty sweet, but it could never replace my d50, only supplement it.
check www.fredmiranda.com and www.nikonians.org for some classifieds if you are looking for an SLR |

You can get a used xt or xti for $400ish, I sold my old xt for $370. it may be a bit complex at first but you can grow into it. I went from a G5 to the xt, and now i'm on a 40D.
Get an xt or xti and use the programed modes until you learn the others. You'll love it.

well i went to see the canon G9 again today, and i bought it. Paid $449.00 with 2 year ADH warranty at best but and a bag to carry it in. I got home put the clear plastic cover over the screen and took it outside for few shots. Im still new to ISO and all that stuff i have no idea what it is, im guessing its lighting brightness. Well so far i like the camera alot still going to take some time to learn all the features which i have no idea about like manual focus. Now question if i wanted to take pics of say an grasshopper and get a better view what type of lenses what i purchase? or am i getting too much into a SLR? But for the money im very happy. For $200 more I could of got the XTI but i think for me personally this is a good beginner camera. Heres some shots, all comments are welcomed. also i took some pictures in raw mode and their 15.4mb where can i host them? photobucket wont accept them that big. Im using a mac is their anything i could use to resize them down?

ISO is the sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO, the more grainy your photos will turn out but will allow you to shoot in darker settings and prevent blurred shots. I'm pretty sure point and shoot cameras like the g9 don't have manual focus or the ability to change lenses. You have to convert the RAW format to something like JPEG. RAW is mainly used for better editing. The XTi is one the best beginners cameras you can buy. The g9 is a great camera but is very limited in what you are able to do with it since it is a point and shoot. You might find yourself wanting to go beyond point and shoot very soon if you're into artistic photos. |
