if you dont want something thats not bull, BCRs are a good start. i would say get Tein Basic's but they are nearly the same price but the BCRs have adjustable dampening.

Sub-1K is going to be garbage. If you cannot afford to pay that, get a decent shock/spring set-up in the mean time. Gotta pay to play.

^ +1. If you want pretty decent to good coilovers, you're looking at 1,000 +/-. I know in the VW arena, you can get pretty good coilovers for 800ish, but to get GOOD coilovers, you're looking at 1200ish. Personally, I'm glad I spent the extra money, as they are significantly better than I expected in all aspects.
And yes, I realize this may not be directly relevant, but it's coilover experience, nonetheless.

Who cares - go get yourself some Ebay specials, your gonna blow em out in a season or two. Put some $500 ebay coils on it and drive it till they blow, and at that point figure out if you wanna keep on drifting. Then pony up the cash and buy legit coils with rates that fit your car (your gonna be running diff rates if you RB/1JZ vs SR, etc). No point in buying good coils before you know if you suck or not. No offense.
Coils + Diff + Bucket Seat (not mandatory but yeah, do it) + tires and your ready for your first season.
