Post your DIY stereos----

The entire reason for me being into cars started from putting systems into cars during the ricer stage of imports. Everyone was happy with the muffler tip to encompas the entire performance side of cars and then it was on to the system. Back in the day a few of us from this forum, (Gregfeder, streeteg, MADjdm) got together and started "Bump audio" which basically exploited people who were into flush trunk setups using Home Depot for wood and carpet...Anyway ....

Logo:

I think greg has pics of the old systems we did but this morning i spent like 4 hours wiring a complete system from the headunit back and I forgot how much fun it is to do---All these years I havent done it you would think that I would forget but it was like riding a bike.

Anyway its not my car but a buddy of mine's Colbalt. Simple setup w/ a premade box all wires tucked....****ty cam phone pic but whatever...

Can't find pics of the other installs, but here's what I got. First was two JL 12W04s on a SOundstream amp. Then, I got two Eclipse aluminum 10s when they came out driven by the Alpine surfboard looking amp...forget the model and specs. Then two aluminum 12s on that amp. Then, I jumped on the titanium 12s and powerd them with a Memphis ST1000D. Here's a pic of them.

Then, they were replaced by two JL 15W3D4s driven by the same Memphis amp.

The enclosure is 7.4 cubic feet, and had to be assembled in two sections. The sections were joined in the car.

Two 1 farad Monster Caps in the jack compartment.

Two LCDs connected to a PSOne in the glove box.

This area houses the AudioControl Epicenter and EQX. Never got a shot of this at night, but when the system is on, the JL Audio logo lights up in red neon behind the black cloth.

Subtle change with the grille cloth. JL wasn't making components at the time, so a set of Boston 6.5Pros lived behind the grilles.

Sure, it's not perfect, but I was 17 at the time, and had no garage or anything, so this was done with basic tools in my parents' driveway.

Same here for me. I was into audio pretty hardcore back when I first got my car. I never had anything that looked pretty but it hit hard. I have yet to actually mount an amp in a car, even though I've been through 3.

In my first car (1983 pontiac sunbird) I started out with a whole bunch of minor stuff. used Kenwood 6X9's aiwa head unit, two ****ty 10" kenwood subs, used 100w radio shack amp. I slowly moved up to the good ****.

Kenwood MP919 head unit (same one that comes in the Mazdaspeed proto's oh how I miss it. I'd pickup another one if I had the chance)

two Kove Armageddon 15" 500W subs in a dual ported box. ****er was huge.
JBL 1200.1 1200W amp

Crystal 6.5 Silk dome tweeter component set in custom kick pods (a square wood box screwed into the floorboard)

with that setup I could make the speedo drop with the bass, the box would float around in the trunk like a ghost from moving so much air and the windows would flex. I think I hit 140DB with that setup in the sunbird.

Next was the super pimp mobile. 1998 Nissan Sentra XE. I bought this and discovered the joys of blunt riding. Pot heads cant have the music loud enough.

Couldnt fit both 15" in the car so I made a box for a single armageddon and ran that for a while. Hit 137DB with that, brough home a trophy.

Then is was time for a change
The old JBL1200.1 next to the new mighty beast known as the a Cadence 1500W amp.

Then comes the Cadence Q3000 to power the DEI Viper component set (supposedly designed by the same guy that did the JL XR component set)

To pump out the bass I bought two 10" Adire Brahma subs. 1000W 36LB beasts in a ported box. Never had that setup metered, I wish I would have.
All I know is it was ****ing loud AND it sounded awesome. Had the tweeters mounted on the a pillars and it was like you were in a concert. You could not hear yourself scream inside the car with it turned up all the way. Nothing beat watching blunt smoke dance to the bass. twas to much for my ears though, felt like someone was shoving needles through my ear drum.

I'll have pics of the Brahmas up tommorow, as well as the WRX's current more sane setup.

They look a lot like the Eclipse Ti's, just minus the metal cone.

This was my setup about a year ago when I worked for Sound of Tri State in Claymont, DE. Full fiberglass box with fiberglass beauty panels. JL 10w6v2, JL 1000/1, JL 450/4. The box only took about 16hrs from start to finish. Not a real obnoxious setup but very crisp and clear. Sold this whole setup a few months ago as it was heavy and not really into audio as much anymore.

This was my setup before the JL Setup, This was right before a show we had every summer. Basic setup, custom mdf box, flushmounted. Rockford 10 P3's and a Rockford Power Series 1001BD.
